Today’s song is from the ‘1978’ movie ‘Karmayogi’. I was longing to share a song from this movie and launch this movie on the blog since long (actually for many years now ).

However, the song I had earlier planned to share is not today’s song, but a different song from this movie.

Today’s song was heard frequently on radio and loudspeakers in those days when I was about ten and half years old (considering the date of censor certificate of this movie).

The reason for introducing this song today here on the blog is to celebrate and wish yesteryears beautiful actress Reena Roy a ‘very happy birthday’ today. She turns sixty-three today (born on 7th January’1957).

We wish her a safe, healthy and peaceful life ahead.

I had in my earlier post mentioned about Reena Roy’s movies that I watched and liked too, so I am not going to repeat the same here. We will straightway come to today’s movie and the song.

‘Karmayogi-1978’ was directed by Ram Maheshwari for ‘A.R. Productions, Bombay’. It was produced by Anil Suri. It had Mala Sinha, Rajkumar, Jeetendra, Rekha, Reena Roy, Ajit, Nazeer Hussain, Jagirdar, Yogita Bali, Sudhir Dalvi, Dheeraj, Kanhaiyalal, Jagdeep, Dhoomal, Mushtaq Merchant, Omkar Ema, Chandrashekhar, Jagdish Raj, Master Abbas, Master Parvez, Master Rajiv, Master Sonu and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 23.10.1978.

This movie had six songs, including one multiple version song. Lyrics for all songs were written by Verma Malik and music was composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Manna Dey were the playback singers for this movie.
Lata Mangeshkar had sung only one solo song in this movie and this is the same song being presented today.
None of the songs from this movie made it to the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala-1978’ or 1979. However, today’s song made it to the ‘shadow list’ of songs or ‘songs of the next rung’ of the annual ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of 1979.

I had watched this movie on VCR during my stay at Kota circa 1990-1991. Though I have now forgotten the story of the movie, but I always remember a song from this movie. That song is another song sung by Asha Bhonsle and picturized 0n Rekha.

I had forgotten about today’s song but recently when I checked the Asha Bhonsle song for a post, I rediscovered this Lata Mangeshkar song. After listening to it, I recalled that this song was playedfrequently on loudspeakers during its time.
