In my childhood and growing years thereafter I was very fond of listening to songs on Radio (Transistor). Other than ‘Binaca Geetmala’, some of the programs that I regularly listened to were S. Kumar’s ka filmi mukaddama, ek hi film ke geet, etc etc.
Other than filmi songs I used to listen mainly to BBC London service for news and especially for news on ‘cricket’ (‘khel samachar’).
Now, on recalling those days, I think that I started with this love for Radio when I was 9/10 yrs old, i.e. from 1977-78. It continued up to 1986 when I bought my first mono-cassette player (Philips). TV had invaded our lives by that time and I think that our first TV- a color Uptron TV- also came in 1986-87.
Thereafter as I had started my professional journey, listening to Radio gets backtracked and I took to ‘cassettes’. Arrival of new cassettes in my collections was an eagerly looked forward to event for me and I was very particular and fussy about my cassette collections.
There was this period from say 1990 to 2004 in between when I visited my in-laws at a small village near Nagpur during summer vacations. There I grabbed the chance to tune in to Radio and relaxed with the music sleeping on the terrace in open and gazing through the sky full of stars… (Because I wanted to experience the life as described in the following lines);
‘Yaa garmiyon ki raat jo purwaayiaan chale
Thhandi safed chaadaron pe jaagen der tak
Taaron ko dekhte rahen chhat par pade huye’
(More on my ‘Nagpur connection’ in some other post… )

In April 2004 I shifted to Ghaziabad to join a new organization, (and this was a big turning point in my professional career) and there I resumed the habit of listening to Radio enjoying the oldies on the FM channels.
But this lasted for only five months. Thereafter, in another big turning point in my life, I shifted to Kachchh-Gujarat to start with a new phase in my life. This was in 2004…
As I took on the new assignments of my professional life, even playing the cassettes and listening to songs had to take the backseat.
But in 2006-2007 when I received my gratuity payment from my old employer, I used a part of it to buy a home theatre which has a DVD/VCD, Cassette player and a Radio too ( this was one of my topmost ‘wishes’ at that time), so finally I got a ‘Philips’ home theatre.
But, as the ‘cassettes’ were getting their share of playing, somehow the Radio ‘frequency’ was not getting in ‘sync’ and I was not able to enjoying the songs on radio perhaps because the right time to enjoy them was yet to come …

One more ‘turning point’ in my life in end 2014… When the ‘rebel’ in me decided to take on new challenge… leaving the job in hand and embracing a ‘uncertain future’ and finally landing in ‘Nagpur’ to get on to with a new ‘organization’…
And now, again, for me the ‘radio days’ have come back again!!
… I can now enjoy the FM while driving from my home to office and in the evening …
Aha!
… Returning back from the office is generally at 7:00 pm and it’s time for ‘Jaymala’…
On normal days and weekends now, the mornings have changed, the ‘noons’ are different now and so are the evenings, nights… ‘tere sur aur mere geet’, ‘sangeet sarita’, ‘bela ke phool’, ‘bhoole bisre geet’ …

So, as I am now getting more and more of the ‘Radio Nostalgia’, I got to listen to this song (the programme I think was ‘madhu malti’ on a Sunday noon )
After listening to this song I was sure it must have been posted earlier on the blog, but to my surprise it was yet to be discussed here, and I am thankful for that ( :) ), because this gives me the opportunity to share it now.
A beautiful duet from the 1978 film- ‘AANKHIN DEKHI’, which was directed by none other than Rajinder Singh Bedi ji.
It was a ‘Dachi Films, Bombay’ presentation.
Music of this film was composed by J.P.Kaushik and two out of the six lyrics in the film were penned by Padma Sachdev ji (I vaguely remember to have watched her either in a programme or interview on Door Darshan).
One song is penned by Ram Murti Chaturvedi. One song is a traditional song, while one each of the two remaining songs have been taken from the creations of Kabeer and Tulsidas ji. Bhupinder, K.J.Yesudas, Mohd Rafi and Sulakshana Pandit have given their voices in the songs of this movie.
The cast of this film includes Suman Sinha, Suresh Bhagat, Dinesh Thakur, Ram Murti Chaturvedi, Leela Mishra, Bipin Gupta, Sulochana Latkar, Savita Bajaj, Bhanumati, Sudipa Roy, Deep Dey, Minal Joshi, Kumud Tripathi, Prakash Sharma, Amar Sharma, Preetam Beli, Jagdev Bhambri, Tom Alter, Amrit Pal and Makhan Singh.
Let us now enjoy this song …
