#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 128 # A Tribute to Anand Bakshi#
——————————————-—————————

Today 30th March 2021 (21.07.1930 – 30.03.2002) is the nineteenth Remembrance anniversary of Lyricist Anand Bakshi. As a tribute to him here is a song from the ‘1976’ movie ‘Mahaachor’ On this occasion .

‘Mahaachor-1976’ was directed by Narinder Bedi for ‘Dachi Films Pvt Ltd, Bombay’. It had Rajesh Khanna, Neetu Singh, Prem Chopra, Kamini Kaushal, Manorama, Anwar Hussain, Krishna Dhawan, Manmohan, Rajan Haksar, Aruna Irani, Sonia Sahni (Special appearance), Master Lollipop, Viju Khote, Rajpal, Narbada Shankar, Jagdish Raj, Pinchoo Kapoor, Birbal, Pratima Devi, Rajnath, Moolchand, Ratnamala, Nishan Singh, Chandu, Dhanna, Mishrilal and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 16.10.1976.

This movie had six songs (as listed below) written by Anand Bakshi and composed by R.D. Burman.

S.No. Song Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Ae..ho..aa …mera naam yaaron mahaachor hai Kishore Kumar
02 Hindu hoon main naa musalmaan hoon Kishore Kumar
03 Sun Banto baat meri… naiyyo katni raat meri Anand Bakshi, Asha Bhonsle
04 Main tumse pyaar karti hoon Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar 29.12.2011
05 Tu kya mujhe barbaad karega … Lata Mangeshkar
06 Meethhi meethhi ankhiyon se man bhar de Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle 18.07.2016

It can be seen that only two songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. The second song appeared after a gap of a little more than four years and six months after the first song. Incidentally today’s song, the third one from this movie, is appearing after a gap of more than four years and eight months (almost about five years). The earlier two songs were posted on anniversaries of Rajesh Khanna. Today’s song is being posted on the ‘Remembrance anniversary’ of Anand Bakshi – the lyricist for this movie.

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and it is lip-synced by Rajesh Khanna. From the picturization of this song it seems to be lip synced after a communal clash between followers of to religions, where this song serves to preach the values of communal harmony

As mentioned above lyrics are by Anand Bakshi and music is composed by R.D. Burman.

In the year ‘1976’ Anand Bakshi wrote lyrics for the following movies;

S. No Name of the movie Music Director
01 Aap Beetee Laxmikant-Pyarelal
02 Baalika Badhu R.D. Burman
03 Baarood S.D. Burman
04 Bairaag Kalyanji-Anandji
05 Bhanwar R.D. Burman
06 Bullet R.D. Burman
07 Charas Laxmikant-Pyarelal
08 Deewaangee Ravindra Jain
09 Dhongee R.D. Burman
10 Do Ladkiyaan Laxmikant-Pyarelal

15 Mahaachor R.D. Burman
16 Mehboobaa R.D. Burman
17 Nehale Pe Dehalaa R.D. Burman
18 Tyaag S.D. Burman

The songs from ‘Kabhie-Kabhie’, ‘Dharam Karam’ and ‘Jai Santoshi Maa’ stood in the first three ranks respectively in the annual list of ‘Binaca-Geetmala’ that year in 1976. As many as eleven songs written by Anand Bakshi figured in this list of ‘1976’. These included songs from ‘Sholay-1975’, ‘Mehboobaa-1976’, ‘Jaaneman-1976’, ‘Warrant-1975’, and ‘Charas-1976’ as well.

let us now listen to today’s song. It is sung by Kishore Kumar. R.D. Burman is the music director and lyrics are by Anand Bakshi.

Lyrics

Hindu hoon main naa Musalmaan hoon
Hindu hoon main naa Musalmaan hoon
Mazhab se apne main anjaan hoon
Bas itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon
Hindu hoon main naa Musalmaan hoon
Mazhab se apne main anjaan hoon
Bas itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon oon
Itnaa pataa hain main insaan hoon

Jisko pataa ho boley
Mazhab kaa raaz khole
Main jab paidaa hua thha
Likha hua nahin thha
Chehre pe naam mera
Sabko salaam mera
Logon ne jo bhi pukaara
Main ban gayaa bechaara
Baat samajh nahin aati
Kiskaa banoon main saathi
Taubaa hai
Taubaa hai
Main kitnaa nadaan hoon
Mazhab se apne main anjaan hoon
Bas itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon oon
Itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon

Likha padha nahin main
Rakhta hoon ispe yakeen main
Maine kahin suna hai
Kisi shayar ne kahaa hai
Mazhab nahin sikhaata
Aapas mein bair rakhna
Kehne ka ye matlab hai
Ye kaunsa majhab hai
Jisne tumhen bhadkaaya
Aapas mein ladna sikhaaya aa
Tum ho khafaa
Tum ho khafaa aur main hairaan hoon
Mazhab se apne main anjaan hoon
Bas itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon oon
Itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon

Om namah shivay nanah
Allah ho akbar r r r

Mandir masjid gurudwaare ae
Mandir masjid gurudwaare ae
Maalik ke ghar hain saare
Ha se Hindu banaa hai
Ma se Muslim banaa hai
Ha aur ma se jaano
Ham sab bane deewaanon
Do haath paanv mere
Do haath paanv tere
Jab jism hain ek jaise
Phir ham judaa hain kaise ae
Pehchaano main sach ki pehchaan hoon
Mazhab se apne main anjaan hoon
Bas itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon oon
Itnaa pataa hai main insaan hoon

4640 Post No. : 16300

The musical bandwagon may be moving slower now a days, but it is moving on nevertheless. Everyday sees at least one post in the blog. The last DOT day for the blog was on 25 december 2019 (4177th day for the blog). Since then, the blog has added at least one song every day for the last 563 days.

Today is 4640th day for the blog. On this day we achieve yet another landmark figure, viz post number 16300. In other words, we complete the 163rd century for the blog today. It works out to an average of 28.5 days for one century. So by the time our moon completes one rotation of the earth, the blog completes one century of songs. 🙂

Here I have likened the progress of the blog to moon. But in the past, I have likened the blog to a bandwagon. And on other occasions, I have likened it to a train as well. 🙂

Come to think of it, trains fascinate us nearly as much as Hindi movie songs fascinate us. Trains in fact fascinate Hindi movie makers also. And so we find trains playing important roles in many Hindi movies. Many songs in these movies take place on trains.

When I checked up, I realised that the blog has just over one hundred rain songs already. We have 102 rail related songs in the blog so far.

If onev thinks that these rail related songs have beebn covered by me ( a Railwayman myself), you cannot be more wrong. Most regular contributors of the blog have contributed to this impressive catalog of rail songs in the blog. Just take a look at the chart here to see the contributions of rail related posts and lyrics by our regulars :-

What an impressive collection of Rail related songs by our regulars.

Some of these songs have doubled up as blog century posts as well. Here is the list of Rail songs that haave been used as blog century posts :-

Blog post number Song Movie (Year) Date of posting
2000 Dhak dhak karti chali jeewan ki rail re Dilruba(1950) 27 september 2009
2700 Jeewan hai ik sapnaa madhur suhaanaa sapnaa Honeymoon (1973) 30 july 2010

15800 Hamaare dil ke station pe bhi baabu kabhi aanaa Fifty Fifty(1950) 12 August 2020

I have decided to use another Rail song as this blog century song. I had a good number of Rail songs to chose from. Avinash Scrapwala, one of the bigger Railway fans among the regulars, had sent me several rail related lyrics and he keeps reminding me about them periodically. I have chosen one of those lyrics for this post.

This song is from “Naach”(1949). “Naach” (1949) was directed by Ravindra Dave for Kuldip Pictures. The movie had Shyam, Suraiya, Kuldip, Raj Mehra, Gulab, Yashodhara Katju, Sofia, Shyama, Wasti, Om Prakash etc in it.

The movie had 11 songs in it. Eight songs have been covered in the past.

This rail song from “Naach”(1949) is sung by Geeta Dutt, Lata Mangeshkar and an unknown male voice.

I take this opportunity to thank one and all for their continued support and encouragement which has kept this musical labour of love to keep rolling on and on without any stoppages. Here is hoping that we will countinue to keep arriving at many more milestones during our musical journey.

4655 Post No. : 16323

Welcome all to this ‘Yippeeee’ song post after some gap. The activity of ‘Yippeeee-ing’ of movies seem to have taken a backseat amid other posts.

If I correctly remember the last movie ‘Yippeeee’ed’ on 05th this month and the movie was ‘Amir Gharib-1974’.

Today’s ‘Yippeeee’ movie is ‘Dard-1981’.

‘Dard-1981’ (conflict of emotions) was directed by Ambrish Sangal for ‘Murghan Enterprises, Bombay’. It was produced by Shyam Sundar Shivdasani. It had Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Poonam Dhillon, Om Shivpuri, Krishan Dhawan, Pinchoo Kapoor, Shashi Kiran, Madhup Sharma, Kamaljeet, Harjeet, Poornima Jairam, Mazhar Khan, and Master Raju Shreshtha. Actress Ranjeeta made a ‘freindly appearance’ in this movie.

Story of this movie was written by Aruna Sangal. Its screenplay and dialogues were written by V.K. Sharma. Narendra Goel was the Chief Assistant Director of this movie. Kamlakar was the editor of this movie and he was assisted by Babubhai Shah.

This film was passed by censor board on 24.07.1981.

Lyrics for all the seven songs (including one multiple version song) in this movie were written by Naqsh Layallpuri. Music of this film was composed by Khayyam Saab. Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle and Bhupinder had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

Six songs (including the one multiple version song) from ‘Dard-1981’ have been posted on the blog as per following details.

SNo Song Title Posted On
01 Aisi haseen chaandni pehle kabhi na thhi 21.09.2012
02 Pyaar ka dard hai meetha meetha pyaara pyaara 19.07.2018
03 Ahl e dil yoon bhi nibhaa lete hain (multiple version) 18.02.2019
04 Na jaane kya hua jo toone choo liya 28.09.2019
05 Qubool keejiye pehle salaam aankhon kaa 24.02.2021

Today’s song is the final song from this movie being posted on the song.

This song is a party song (celebration song) wherein we can see Rajesh Khanna and Poonam Dhillon, with Hema Malini and others present in the picturisatin of this song.
I hope I have been able to correctly note the ‘Punjabi’ words in this song.

Let us now enjoy the today’s song.

With this song all the songs of the movie ‘Dard-1981’ gets covered on the blog and the movie gets ‘Yippeeee’ed on the blog.

(#Music Composer-Singer-Bappi Lahiri#6)
————————————————
#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #Year-1983 – The year of ‘Himmatwaalaa’
——————————————————————–

We are back for yet another ‘warmer’ summer. Temperatures are already soaring day by day. e are in the midst of the second summer in the ‘pandemic age’. If we compare it to last year’s summer, this year ‘surge of the pandemic’ is decidedly more serious than what it was in the previous year.

For students also, an unusual summer in terms of classes and exams. And that reminds me of the ‘summers’ in my childhood. We would wait for the exams to get over, which would be conducted in March-April. From May it would be vacations till June 7th (or the first or second Monday of June, hope I am correct) when the schools reopened for the next educational year.

The normal planning for the vacations would be to visit grandparents, playing cricket, reading story books, magazines, comics, cricket-samrat’, ‘listening to music on SLBC, ‘Vividh Bharati’ and ‘listening to BBC Khel Samachar etc. on radio’. Watching movies in the nearby city (Akola) would be one more option. Also common in those days were ‘touring talkies’ which would be camping in the season. After a full day of warm summer, one ould enjoy movies in the evening and night shows in these touring talkies which generally would be in open fields.

That was the planning for ‘summer vacations’ but before that we had to go through exams.

When I talk of ‘summer nostalgia’, I cannot forget the summer of the most important year in my life, and that is the year ‘1983’ (educational year 1982-83) when I was in 10th standard and I appeared for the board exams in Mar-1983 (or may be Mar-April-1983).

A crucial year of studies in one’s life according to the general ‘perception’ in our society (in those years, or it is the same even today?) 😊.
However, we were not having those many comforts we have now. There was no TV, no mobile, no internet, no fridge (at our home).
But there was ‘Radio’ or ‘Transistor’ and there were books and newspapers. Other than cricket it was ‘carrom’ ‘badminton’ and other outdoor games etc.

However, my Uncle staying at Koradi (Nagpur) had purchased a ‘Dynora’ ‘b/w’ TV. And India and Pakistan were having a test series. So, somehow, I convinced my parents to allow me to go for few days and watch the matches on TV and come back.

Imagine, on one side all my friends, classmates were tense, and I had bunked my ‘tuitions’ to watch India-Pakistan matches on TV. My tuition teacher asked my parents to please call me back and when I returned from Nagpur, he humbly requested me ‘aata he cricket vagaire soda, ani abhyasaat laksh ghaala’ (forget the cricket now and concentrate on the studies now) And why not he was not even charging me the tuition fees like my other friends.

So, I concentrated on on studies, but still not giving a serious thought to Teacher and Parent’s instructions I continued to at least play half an hour every day and even on examination days, citing the reason of ‘relieving exam stress’ to my parents.

After examinations it was again ‘cricket’ and ‘movies’ too … And when I talk of summer’1983 I cannot forget the movies I watched during the vacation after appearing for the board exams which was like normal exams for me.

Cassette players had already made entry into our colony and a few people possessed them . So, there were songs and movies. Songs of ‘Nikaah’, ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Himmatwaala’ etc. could be heard anywhere either on radio or ‘tape recorders.’

As a cricket fan, this summer turned out to be the most memorable and unforgettable as Kapil’s Devils clinched the ‘first world cup title’ for India in June’1983.

Given my age that time I was more interested in cricket, movies, books, and study to pass the exams 😊.

Now, when I check the important happenings in our country in that year – 1983 – google had the following results.

● Waiting telephone connections.
● Silk Smitha.
● Khushwant Singh.
● Kapil Dev brings World Cup to India.
● Nellie Massacre tragedy.
● Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.

Challenges were still there, and the next year 1984 was a crucial year as we are all aware we lost our Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The previous years to 1983 i.e., 1981 & 1982 saw floods playing havoc in Rajasthan, and Saurashtra & Orissa, respectively.

All was lost for the peoples residing there, but life had to find its way, so the people of this country do, from time immemorial – facing challenges – fighting them – and winning over them and re-creating more than what has been lost. ‘To fight back with more strength after all is lost’ is in the blood of the people of this land.

Ah! but one cannot bring back the lives that are lost.

Today, again, we are facing challenges and our ‘warriors’ from different fields of the society are fighting with the pandemic and helping people going far out of the way of what they could be.

The stories of highest sacrifices done by individuals and group of peoples never cease to hit the media and life goes on …

Here is a song, that could better explain the ‘challenge’, we as ‘human’ must overcome and save our people, help them, and ‘rebuild’ them.

‘The dignity’ of ‘humanity’ should be upheld and protected.

If 1983 was the year of filmy ‘Himmatwaalaa’ the year ‘2020’ and ‘2021’ have been the years of the ‘real heroes’, who have shown exemplary courage during the ‘lock-down-1’ and first phase of the pandemic, and during the second and worst phase of the pandemic.

Whether they are frontline health workers, doctors, social workers, non-governmental organizations providing food and shelters to many, migrant labors, small entrepreneurs, or start-ups … all of them have suffered a lot themselves. and have still helped many to stand in this hour of calamity.

The ‘pandemic challenge’ is not over yet and still a lot needs to be done by all collectively…

Today’s song is the song which I like most from this movie ‘Himmatwaalaa-1983’ and Bappi Lahiri has given this different composition among the other ‘dance-romance-dream’ songs in this movie. Same thing applies to the lyricist Indeever who penned this song.

In the movie the song happens when nearby villages have been washed off due to flood and nature’s fury (in the movie it is shown taking place in Gujarat).
The hero of the movie Jeetendra calls a meeting of the youths and motivates them to join him in collectively helping those who have lost their all.
However, the elders in the town did not agree with Jeetendra and try to prevent their kin from joining him.

This song takes place here when Jeetendra give the clarion call to all singing this song. As it happens the people (Arun Govil and many others) respond to his call and joined him in this mission.

# Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood # 8
——————————————————–

Welcome all to this eighth post in this series where we are discussing songs performed by Junior Mehmood as a ‘superstar child artist’.

So far, the following seven songs in this series have been discussed on the blog earlier.

1) lagey koi lottery koi jackpot lagey

2) Na koi paisa na ilm banaao bambai mein film

3) Mera naam hai Mehmood

4) Birha ki rain sooni sooni sejariya

5) Aisa banoonga actor main yaaron

6) Ham hi jaanen ek torey manwa ki peer

7) Janamdin tujhko mubaraak ho

Today’s song is from the 1970 movie ‘Bachpan’.

As mentioned in the earlier posts under this series, ‘Naunihaal-1967’ was the first released movie of child artist Junior Mehmood.

He went on to act in many movies as a child artist then. He was the most loved child artist in those years of end-sixties to mid-seventies.

As a child artist Junior Mehmood achieved a ‘Superstar’ like status. He got to perform on many songs or rather many songs were picturised on him during those days.

We are going to enjoy one such song of Junior Mehmood as a child artist from the movie ‘Bachpan-1970’. The today’s wonderful entertaining song is performed by Junior Mehmood and other child artist including Sachin and Naeem (?) and many others.

This song is a different from his’ other songs as a child artist, because here he is not doing any mimicry of other actors or his guru, but in today’s song he is performing as a ‘girl’ or in a ‘female’ get-up.

In today’s song we see all the child artists (mentioned above) are singing and dancing in a police station where Sanjeev Kumar is in a lock-up. From the lyrics of this song we can guess that all these children have a plan to divert the attention of the on-duty police staff in their singing-dancing activities so that Sanjeev Kumar is able to escape from their custody.

The lyrics, music and singing of this song is very lively and entertaining to watch as Junior Mehmood, Sachin performs by lip syncing in Lata Mangeshkar’s voice and lead other children in the performance.

In an interview with Zarina Wahab (available here) Junior Mehmood had mentioned this song as his most favourite song among all the songs picturised on him.

‘Bachpan’ was directed by K.P. Atma for ‘Atma Arts Universal, Bombay’. K.P. Atma co-produced this movie with K.H. Rao. It had Sanjeev Kumar, Master Sachin, Junior Mehmood, Shahid, Anwar Hussain, Mukri, Sunder, Joginder, Baldev Mehta, Keshto Mukherji, Aruna Irani, Sulochana Chatterjee, Tabassum, Pratima Devi, Baby Gayatri, Baby Guddi, Master Alankar, Naeem and Tanuja.

Story of this movie was written by K.P. Atma. Screenplay and dialogues were written by Raj Baldev Raj. Editing of this movie was done by Shivaji Awdhut.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 24.09.1970.

This movie had total six songs which were written by Anand Bakshi and composed to music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Mohd Rafi, and P. Susheela were the playback singers for the songs in this movie.

Three songs from the movie ‘Bachpan-1970’ have been posted earlier on the blog. Today’s song is the fourth song from this movie to be posted on the blog.

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
———————————————————–———-
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 141 # Preet Ki Dori-1971 #

————————————————————

‘Preet Ki Dori’ is  one of the lesser known films of 1971. It probably did not do well at the box office, maybe that is why the film and its music is not remembered. However it does have some very good songs.

The film was produced by Suraj Prakash Seth under the banner of KS Pictures, Bombay and presented by Krishna Kumari. It was directed by Satish Kumar. Story, dialogues and screenplay of this movie was written by R Priyadarshi. The film was edited by Kamlakar. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 25.09.1971.

The star cast for the film includs Tanuja, Ajay Sahni (Parikshit Sahni), Bindu, Nazeer Hussain, Jeevan, Lalita Pawar, Asit Sen, Roopesh Kumar, Mohan Choti, Tuntun, Kumud, Mishrilal, Nikita, Maruti, Randhir, Santosh Kumar, Pal Sharma, Rajnath, Radheyshyam, Soni, Nazeer Kashmiri, Maqbool, Abu Bakar, Dalpat Kaka, Ajeet, N Reddi, Paul Sharma and a parrot ‘Mitthoo’.

This movie has five songs, all written by Indeewar. Music for this movie is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, and Lata Mangeshkar have given their voices to the songs in this movie. (all songs are solo songs where Asha Bhonsle and Lata Mangeshkar have two solos each and one solo song was by Kishore Kumar).

Following is the list of songs of this movie as mentioned in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980).

With this Lata song posted, all Lata Mangeshkar songs from this movie will be covered. The song is lip synced by Tanuja on screen. Parikshit Sahni is also seen in the picturization of this lovely song.

This song appears to be complementary to another song in the film. The song “Milaa Jo Pyaar To Hum Pyaar Ke Qaabil Na Rahe“, is a sad song that is sung by Kishore Kumar and is picturized on Ajay Sahni. Although I have not seen the film, it appears that the song being posted today, is from the happier times between Tanuja and Ajay Sahni (in terms of the characters they play in the film). Then maybe things do not go well, and we see Ajay Sahni in a wheelchair, lip syncing the sad song sung by KK. The words in the mukhda in both these songs are similar in part, Just a thought. I would request other readers who may have seen this film to please comment on this.

Whatever songs of this movie I have listened and watched are some nice songs however none of the songs of this movie became popular. Atul ji has also mentioned it in the first song post of this movie, that maybe because the movie flopped at the box office, so its songs had also not done well.

Let us now enjoy today’s song …

Music Composer – Uttam Singh – 02
——————————————–

We are discussing songs composed by Uttam Singh as music director. In the first post we discussed a song from the ‘1983’ movie ‘Painter Babu’ where music was composed by Uttam Singh with Jagdish Khanna.

Uttam Singh and Jagdish Khanna collaborated as music composers together in many movies. After ‘Painter Babu’, they collaborated in ‘Waaris-1988’. The songs of ‘Waaris’ became very popular and the sales of this movies’s music album created records.

Today we will listen to a song from this movie ‘Waaris-1988’.

‘Waaris-1988’ was directed by Ravinder Peepat for ‘G.G. Widescreen’. It was presented by Iqbal Singh Atwal and Amarjit Singh.

This movie was produced by Mrs. Swarn Yograj, Baldev Gill, and J.S. Cheema. It had Smita Patil, Raj Babbar, Amrita Singh, Raj Kiran, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Amrish Puri.
Also featuring in the cast included by Sushma Seth, Sudhir Pandey, Ramesh Tiwari, Avtar Gill, Javed Khan, Shashi Bala, Rana Jang Bahadur, Mohinder Mastan, Rita Sikand, Kuldeep Kaur, Ravi Bhushan, Gurucharan Baggan, Ramna, Sardar Sohi, Mohan Baggan, Sarandeep Dhillon, Amrik Gill, Ashwini Bharadwaj, Arvind Kumar, Manju Bhatia, Ram Murti, and others.

This movie introduced Navneet Singh. Amrit Pal, Anjana Mumtaz and Pradeep Kumar made special appearances in this movie.

This movie was based on Punjab Novel ‘Kaare Haathi’ written by Sohan Singh Hans. Screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Baldev Gill. Editing of this movie was done by Subhash Sehgal. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 15.04.1988.

‘Warris-1988’ had nine songs in it (including one multiple version song). Vermal Malik, Qamar Jalalabadi and Sardar Panchhi were the lyricists for this movie. Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Suresh Wadkar, Manmohan Singh and Mahendra Kapoor had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

As mentioned above music for this movie was composed by Uttam-Jagdish (Uttam Singh-Jagdish Khanna).

Today’s song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Man Mohan Singh. On screen it is lip synced by Amrita Singh and Raj Babbar, respectively.

Today 23rd June 2021 is sixty-nineth birth anniversary of actor Raj Babbar. And on this occasion, we wish him a very happy birthday and a healthy and peaceful life ahead.

With today’s melodious song ‘Waaris-1988’ makes its debut on the blog.

‘Waaris-1988’ also joins with ‘Waaris-1954’ and ‘Waaris-1969’ on the blog. (Both ‘Waaris’ of 1954 and 1969 are already ‘Yippeeeed’ on the blog.)

Let us now enjoy today’s song …

Blog Day :

4727 Post No. : 16443

Today 27th June 2021 is the eighty-second birth anniversary (27.06.1939 – 04.01.1994) of music composer Rahul Dev Burman or Pancham Da as we fondly know him.

On this occasion we remember him and celebrate his birth anniversary by listening to songs composed by him. That way we pay our humble tributes to this great genius who ruled Hindi Film Music from the seventies to mid-eighties.

Though more than seven hundred R D Burman songs are already showcased in the blog, I was still confused about the song to be selected for today’s presentation, seeing that many of Pancham’s well known songs are still not yet covered on the blog. Nowadays I am listening to Vividh Bharati daily and I am regularly coming across many of his songs on the radio (not yet covered here). whenever I listen to them, I feel like sharing the lyrics of those songs in the blog. Out of 1755 songs estimated to be composed by him in HFM we have posted only 739 songs on the blog so far. So we have yet to reach the halfway mark as far as R D Burman songs in the blog is concerned.

(I have also noted couple of new topics about the songs composed by R.D. Burman and will try to bring them on the blog in future).

As observed above, we are still a long way off from enjoying the ‘music’ of the great genius Rahul Dev Burman fully in the blog.

A lot has already been written about Pancham Da’s music, his geniuses, his ‘era’ of ‘music’, his ‘rise’ in the Hindi Film Music and the days when he was ‘left alone’ by the people in the Film Industry. Few books have also been published about ‘the man and his music’ i.e., R.D. Burman. There have been many articles on him on our blog itself. So I ill not repeat the same details and I will straightway to today’s song now.

Today we will listen to one of the songs composed by R.D. Burman which is from the movie ‘Chalta Purza-1977’. It was produced and directed by Bhappi Sonie for his home productions. This movie had Rajesh Khanna, Parveen Babi, Rakesh Roshan, Ajit, Ranjeet, Asrani, Purnima, Baby Chintu, Sonia Sahni, Sudhir, Manmohan, V. Gopal, Leena Disuza, Kirti Kumar, Kuljit, Dhoomal, Aparna Chaudhary, Madan Keni, Bramha Bharadwaj, Shyam Kumar, Mumtaz Begam, Lalita Kumari, Manorama, Habib, Keshav Rana, Madhup Sharma, Kamal, Kamaldeep, Dilip Dutt, Jankidas and others. Bindu make a special appearance in this movie, while Murad, Raj Mehra, Komila Virk, Keti Mirza and Dev Kumar make a guest appearance in this movie.

Story and Screenplay of this movie was written by Sachin Bhaumick and dialogues were written by Kader Khan. Editing for this movie was done by M.S. Shinde.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 16.06.1977, that is almost forty-four years back.

There were four songs in this movie composed by R.D. Burman and written by Anand Bakshi. Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Sushma Shreshtha gave their voices to the songs in this movie.

Following is the list of songs of this movie-

S.No. Song Title Singer Posted on the blog on
01 Ye raat ne rang jamaaya hai, nayaa khilaadi aaya hai Asha Bhonsle
02 Aa gaye ham dildaar teri gali mein dilbar yaar Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar Being presented today
03 Baby ghar chalo ghar tum bin hai soona Kishore Kumar, Sushma Shreshtha 29.12.2016
04 Aapne farz nibhaaya hai … band lifaafe mein jaise paighaam likha hota hai Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar 06.02.2013

As mentioned above two songs from this movie ‘Chalta Purza-1977’ have been posted on the blog. (We can also see that we are going in ascending order 😊 in posting of the songs of this movie).

Today’s song is the third song from this movie to be posted on the blog. Today’s song is
sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar and on the screen Bindu and Rajesh Khanna have lip-synced for the voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar, respectively. The song seems to be happening in a marriage ceremony in the movie, I guess its marriage ceremony of Rakesh Roshan who can be seen with Rajesh Khanna, Bindu, and many others in the picturization of this song.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us now enjoy today’s song …

Song-Arre aa gaye hum dildaar teri gali mein dilbar yaar(Chalta Purza)(1977) Singers-Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

Are aa gaye ham dildaar
Teri gali mein
Dilbar yaar
Nakhre chhad ho ja tayyar
Gaadi chhoot jaayegi
Arre aa gaye hum dildaar
Teri gali mein
Dilbar yaar
Nakhre chhad ho ja tayyar
Gaadi chhoot jaayegi
O main nahin jana tere saath
Main nahin jana tere saath re
Main nahin jana tere saath
Leja waapas ye baaraat
Phir mat karna aisi baat
Yaari toot jaayegi
Main nahin jaana tere saath
Leja waapas ye baaraat
Phir mat karna aisi baat
Yaari toot jaayegi

Bade naseebon waali hai tu
Lagi hai hamko pyaari
Bade naseebon waali hai tu
Lagi hai hamko pyaari
Ham chal diye to
Reh jaayegi saari umr kunwaari
Are mere liye bahut hain ladke
Laga hua hai mela
Mere liye bahut hain ladke
Laga hua hai mela
Main na mili to reh jaayega
Saari umr akeyla

Taane mat maar
Jhagdaa mat kar beech bazaar
Nakhre chhad ho ja tayyar
Gaddi chhoot jaayegi
Main nahin jana tere saath
Leja waapas ye baarat
Phir mat karna aisi baat
Yaari toot jaayegi

Gali gali phirte hain tere jaise
Kayi deewaane
Mujhe to shaq hai bhool gaya hai
Rastaa tu anjaane

Mujhe kayi khat likhe toone
Gharwaalon se chori
Mujhe kayi khat likhe toone
Gharwaalon se chori
Chupke se mere haathon mein de de haath o gori
Maang na mera haath main na doon tujhko khairaat
Phir mat karna aisi baat
Yaari toot jaayegi

Are aa gaye hum dildaar
Teri gali mein
Dilbar yaar
Nakhre chhad ho ja tayyar
Gaadi
Are
Chhoot jaayegi ee

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) -1 (1981)
————————————————————–

We are back to ‘Pancham’s musical world’ again, or rather let me take you there once again 😊!

Regulars on the blog are well aware that I have been looking for movies that made their debut in the initial months of the blog and later got neglected so much so that, they had to wait for their second song on the blog for more than ten to twelve years.

Today’s movie is one such movie. Though this movie got its second song posted immediately after its’ first song, but now it has been more than twelve years that this movie is waiting for the third song.

This movie is ‘Daulat-1981’. Knowledgeable readers must surely be aware of the scintillating music of this movie which was composed by R.D. Burman.

I had also listened some of its songs earlier, but I was not aware that they were from ‘Daulat-1981’.

Two songs from this movie ‘Daulat-1981’ have been posted on the blog – the first one ‘zindagi ye zindagi’ on 30th January’2009, and the second song posted was – ‘teri har adaa hai haseen’ – posted on 1st February’2009.

Both these songs have very nice music and especially I like ‘zindagi ye zindagi’ very much.
But when I checked the remaining songs of this movie, I discoverd today’s song. I was surprised that this lesser-known movie had such great songs too. I am saying it a lesser-known movie because I do not remember to have heard or read about this movie during all these years.
I am sure readers must be remembering today’s song very well or they may have listened to it frequently on radio.

This song is sung by Kishore Kumar.

Lyrics for all songs of this movie are written jointly by Vitthalbhai Patel and Nida Fazli.

HFGK Vol-VI (1981-1985) mentions this in the footnote of this movie’s information.

Today’s movie ‘Daulat-1981’ was directed by Mohan Saigal for ‘Milan Movies, Bombay’.

It was produced by Jawaharlal Bafna- C.D. Mehta –Vasant Doshi- Smt. B.N. Shah

It had Vinod Khanna, Zeenat Aman, Raj Babbar, Sarika, Deven Verma, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Amjad Khan, Om Shivpuri, Dev Kumar, Mohan Shery, Ramesh Deo, Poornima Jairam, Chand Usmani, Shivraj, Yunus Parvez, Mac Mohan, Brahm Bharadwaj, Yusuf Khan, Birbal, Padma Chavan, Parveen Pal, Madhu Malhotra, Gauri Verma, Asha Chandra, Ranveer Raj, Manmauji, Raj Kaul, Prince Shakeel, Madhav Achwal, Shabnam, Sunil Dhawan, Baby Geeta, Master Raju, Master Gautam, Master Rajesh, C.S. Dubey, Ashok Saxena, Bholanath, Raj Kishore, Gopal Saigal, Yogesh Chandra, Baby Gazala, R.R. Somaiyya and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 11.12.1981.
(As per HFGK Vol-VI (1981-1985) there have been two more movies with the same title ‘Daulat’ passed by Censor Board in ‘1937’ and ‘1949’).

This movie had five songs as per details given below.

SNo Song Title Singer/s
01 Moti ho to baandh ke rakh doon Kishore Kumar
02 Teri har adaa hai haseen Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar
03 Main to hoon sholaa badan Asha Bhonsle, chorus
04 Aa aa aji taaron mein chamak Asha Bhonsle, Suresh Wadkar, Chandrashekhar Gadgil, chorus
05 Zindagi ye zindagi, do ghadi ki zindagi

Lyrics writing for above songs is jointly credited to Vitthalbhai Patel-Nida Fazli.

As mentioned above music for this movie was composed by R.D. Burman.

In spite of having good songs, no songs from this movie featured in the ‘annual list’ of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of the year 1981.

However, songs from the following movies, where R.D. Burman had composed music, featured in the ‘Binaca Geetmala annual list of 1981’. (Though top three songs in this list were ‘non-Pancham’ songs.
1) Love Story-1981
2) Shaan (1980)
3) Rocky – 1981
4) Biwi O Biwi – 1981
5) Sanam Teri Kasam (1982)

(Songs of the following movies where music was composed by R.D. Burman and passed by Censor Board in ‘1981’ made it to the ‘annual list of Binaca Geetmala-1982’, but again none of them featured in the ‘top three’ of the list.
1) Zamaane Ko Dikhaanaa Hai – 1981
2) Satte Pe Sattaa – 1981
3) Kaaliyaa – 1981)

Let us have a look on the movies passed by Censor Board in 1981 and where the music is composed by R.D. Burman with their respective status on the blog.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) -2 (1982)

In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in the year 1982 , viz the second year of the decade of 1981-1990.

Following movies released in 1982 had their music composed by R.D. Burman.

Pancham was still giving some of his very best music, just like the previous year 1981.

From the above movies I had watched ‘Aamne Saamne’, ‘Dard Ka Rishtaa’, ‘Maasoom’, ‘Sanam Teri Qasam’, ‘Teri Qasam’, ‘Ye To Kamaal Ho Gayaa’ and ‘Yeh Vaadaa Rahaa’.

I do not remember all of them now except ‘Maasoom’, ‘Ye Vaadaa Rahaa’ and ‘Dard Ka Rishtaa’. But I remember the music of most of these movies. I also remember some songs from ‘Bemisaal’, ‘Ashaanti’, ‘Aamne Saamne’, ‘Shakti’ and ‘Swaami Daada’. ‘Shauqeen’ and ‘Namkeen’. I think I did watch ‘Shauqeen’ and ‘Namkeen’ on ‘cable TV’.

The annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala-1982’ had as many as ‘ten songs composed by R.D. Burman’ in the annual list. Out of them three songs also have the voice of R.D. Burman. However, this year too none of the R.D. Burman songs made it to the top three ranks in ‘Binaca Geetmala Annual List’.

These ten songs were as given below.

9) Jabse tumko dekha Kaaliya (1981)
10) Jahaañ teri yeh nazar hai Kaaliya (1981)

Two R.D. Burman songs were considered in the ‘shade’ list i.e.

1) ‘Kaun kisi ko baandh sakaa’ – from Kaaliya-1981 and
2) ‘Tu, tu hai wahi dil ne jise apna kahaa -’ from ‘Ye Vaadaa Rahaa-1982’.

For me the surprise omission in the above list was the songs of the movie ‘Ye Vaada Rahaa’. I personally think that this movie had some very good songs. One song from this movie made it to the ‘chhaaon’ list or shade list.

‘Ye Vaadaa Rahaa-1982’ was directed by Kapil Kapoor for ‘Rose Movies, Bombay’. It was produced by Ramesh Behl. It had Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Poonam Dhillon, Sarika, Rakhi, Rakesh Bedi, Iftekhar, Agha, Sundar, Gulshan Bawra, Hari Shivdasani, Chandu Prakash, Madan Joshi, Shrimati Mistry, Prasad, Pappu, Geeta, Aditya, Shanta, Salma, Asha, Avinash Thakur and others.

Shammi Kapoor made a special appearance in this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 31.03.1982.

‘Ye Vaada Rahaa-1982’ had six songs penned by Gulshan Bawra and composed to music by Rahul Dev Burman.

The six songs from this movie are as listed below.

01 Aisa kabhi huaa nahin Kishore Kumar, chorus

04 Tu, tu hai wahi dil ne jise apnaa kahaa Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle
05 Ishq mera bandagi hai, ishq meri zindagi hai Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle
06 Mil gayeen aaj do lehren kuchh is tarah Asha Bhonsle 24.12.2013/td>

We can see from the above table that only two songs from this movie have been posted on the blog and that was in 2013. These two songs appear back-to-back in December 2013 on 17th and 24th.

Same is the case with another Pancham movie from the same year i.e., 1982 is ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ which I was under the impression that it should have been Yippeeee’ed on the blog. But so far only two songs from this movie have been posted on the blog and that was on 21.04.2012 and 07.11.2013.

Let us now listen to the today’s song sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle where on screen it is lip-synced by Rishi Kapoor and Poonam Dhillon respectively. The picturisation of the songs shows it at a party occasion where Poonam Dhillon tries to sing but some of the persons from the audience starts raising slogans and hooting. At this point Rishi Kapoor enters and start singing and the audience welcomes him and listen the song.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) -3 (1983)
——————————————————————

In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in 1983.

If we talk actor wise the year ‘1983’ belonged to Rajesh Khanna. He delivered hits like Avtaar, Sautan, and Agar Tum Naa Hote. That readily brings to our mind his favourite music director and lyricist viz. Rahul Dev Burman and Anand Bakshi respectively.

In the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of that year the song that was a ‘topper’ was a song from Rajesh Khanna movie, but it was composed by Usha Khanna and not Rahul Dev Burman. The song was ‘shaayad meri shaadi ka khayaal’. On the 2nd and 3rd spot of this list, were the songs of ‘Nikaah’ composed by Ravi.

There was only one Rajesh Khanna movie that year where Pancham had composed the music. This movie was ‘Agar Tum Naa Hote’. Its popular title song ranked twenty-third in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’.

The other Rajesh Khanna movie that found representation in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ was ‘Avtaar’ (its song ‘zindagi mauj udaane ka naam hai’ was at 25th position). (I have not included ‘Disco Dancer-1982 where Kaka had special appearance).

Following movies which were released in 1983 had their music composed by R.D. Burman.

19 Shubh Kaamnaa K. Vishwanath Anjaan 23.07.1983 1 of 5 songs posted

From the above list one song each of ‘Betaab’, ‘Lovers’ and ‘Pukaar’ appeared at spot no.4, 16 and 31 respectively in the annual list of ‘Geetmala – 1983’.

In addition to this one song each from the movies ‘Maasoom’ and ‘Shakti’ ranked at number 11 and 22 respectively. But these were the movies released in 1982.

Two songs – one each from ‘Betaab’ and ‘Maasoom’ appeared in the shadow list of that year’s annual list of Binaca Geetmala.

For today’s presentation I have chosen a song from ‘Main Aawaaraa Hoon-1983’. Two movies from the year 1983, where Pancham composed music, have not debuted on the blog out of nineteen movies. One is ‘Main Aawaaraa Hoon’ and other is ‘Bindiyaa Chamkegi’.

I am not aware of the songs from ‘Bindiyaa Chamkegi’ and songs of ‘Main Aawaaraa Hoon’. But except the one song that is the today’s song from ‘Main Aawaaraa Hoon’. I was aware of this song, but I was not aware the name of the movie it was from.

It is nice sentimental-hummable song ‘kisi ki bewafaai ka sabab ban jaaya karti hai’. I remember this song was played frequently on Radio and cassette recorders in Restaurants and Hotels.
(I was staying at Akola (Maharashtra) then for my 11-12th standard studies 😊)

“Main Aawaaraa Hoon-1983” was directed by Aseem Samanta for his father’s productions ‘Shakti Films, Bombay’. It was produced by Shakti Samanta. It had Sanjay Dutt, Rati Agnihotri, Jayaprada, Raj Babbar, Shakti Kapoor, Madan Puri, Iftekhar, Satyen Kappu, Shubha Khote, Ramesh Deo, Rashmi Chauhan, Raj Bharati, Dinesh Hingoo, Asit Sen, Madhumalini, Tarun Ghosh, Rajendra Nath, Krishnakant, Birbal, Jugnu, Robin Kar, Manorama and others.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 25.11.1983.

“Main Aawaaraa Hoon-1983” had five songs, all written by Anand Bakshi. Music was composed by Rahul Dev Burman.

Following is the list of songs this movie had.

04 Kisi ki bewafaai ka sabab ban jaaya karti hai Kishore Kumar

Let us now listen to today’s song which on screen is lip-synced by Sanjay Dutt in the voice of Kishore Kumar who has sung this song with his special touch. The song grows up on us if we listen to it more than once…

Other than Sanjay Dutt we can see Raj Babbar, Rati Agnihotri, Shubha Khote, Rajendra Nath, Iftekhar, Asit Sen and others in the picturisation of this song.

Today 26th September’2021 is the thirty-secondth Remembrance Anniversary of Legendary Singer and Music Director of yesteryears Hemant Kumar.

Hemant Kumar Mukhopadhyay was born on 16th June 1920 at Benaras, Benaras State under British India.

He passed away on 26th September 1989 at the age of sixty-nine.

As a fan of Hemant Kumar’s voice, I had always liked his singing and his compositions that he has given us in the Hindi Film Music. He also sang in many regional languages including my mother tongue – ‘Marathi’. Ravindra Sangeet sung by him in ‘Bengali language’ is an immortal gift he left for all music connoisseurs.

Here, I am not going to mention his long list of achievements and the various awards and felicitations he received in his career in Music.

Today, as a tribute to him on his ‘Remembrance Day’ I would like to present a song from the 1966 movie – ‘Biwi Aur Makaan’. I had noted this song long back i.e., in 2013 however it still remained to be posted. Later, I tried to get it posted on anniversary of Gulzar and Hemant Kumar, but it could not succeed.

It is a ‘saawan song’ and though the ‘saawan’ month is behind us by now, we still have ‘showers’ continuing in some parts. This song will join the ‘saawan song’ club where we have more than hundred songs already posted.

I became aware of today’s song long back when I was in my ‘teens’. I think I listened to it for the first time on ‘All India Radio’ Urdu service program. After that when I started collecting music ‘cassettes’ I got this song in the ‘Vintage Favorites – Hemant Kumar’ brought by HMV in 1986. I have earlier given the details of other songs in this compilation in my post on the blog.

‘Biwi Aur Makaan-1966’ was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee for ‘Geetanjali Pictures, Bombay’.
It had Vishwajeet, Kalpana, Mehmood, Shabnam, Ashish Kumar, Padma Devi, Bipin Gupta, Badri Prasad, Kanu Roy, Sarita Devi, Keshto Mukherjee, Ajit Chatterjee, Moni Chatterjee, Brahm Bharadwaj and many others.

This movie had ten songs written by Gulzar and composed by Hemant Kumar.

Here is the list of these nine songs of ‘Biwi Aur Makaan-1966’.

09 Mujhko mohabbat ho gayi hai Joginder, Talat Mehmood, Manna Dey, Mukesh, Hemant Kumar 22.12.2016
10 Aise daaton mein ungli dabaao nahin Usha Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle 18.08.2021

From the table given above, we can see that so far only fours songs of this movie have been posted on the blog. Today’s song will be the fifth song from this movie to be posted on the blog.

The movie which started its journey on 23.06.2009, already having’ a long run on the blog, seems to be taking another ‘marathon run’ to cover all of its songs on the blog 😊

Let us now enjoy today’s song composed and sung by Hemant Kumar. Lyrics are by Gulzar …

I hope readers will enjoy this song as I did …

In today’s post we move on to Pancham’s music in 1984.

Pancham continued entertaining his audience by composing good music in this year ‘1984’ too. There were as many as seventeen movies (released) in this year 1984, where the music was composed by Rahul Dev Burman or our beloved Pancham Da.

The list of these seventeen movies is as listed below.

In-spite of composing good music and giving some timeless classics in some of the above movies, none of the song from the above movies appeared in the ‘annual list of Binaca Geetmala’ that year of 1984.

Songs of ‘Hero-1983’, ‘Sharaabi-1984’ and ‘Tohfa-1984’ ruled the roost by securing number 1,2 and 3 respectively. Another song of ‘Tohfa-1984’ was on number four.

If I am asked to select the best of Pancham that year the album “Duniya-1984” certainly was the topper for me. It had a varied range of songs composed by Pancham – the foot tapping ‘tu chaand nagar ki shehzaadi’, taking you far from world ‘gehre halke, halke gehre’, the philosophical ‘phirte hain kab se dar-badar’, the entertaining ‘duniya bahut hi kamaal hai’, the party song ‘jhoomti raat jawaan’ and lovely one ‘teri meri zindagi pyaar bhari zindagi’. The lyrics of all the songs by Javed Akhtar were all magical.

The movie ‘Sunny’ (aur kya ahd e wafaa hote hain etc), ‘Zameen Aasmaan’, ‘Aawaaz’, ‘Ham Hain Laajawaab’, ‘Jhoothha Sach’ also have some good compositions by Pancham. But the albums mostly heard and were a run-away hits were songs from ‘Jawaani’ and ‘Manzil Manzil’. However, none of them made it to the ‘Binaca Geetmala annual list of 1984’.

Today we are going to listen to a song from the movie ‘Manzil-Manzil’. This song is picturised on Dimple Kapdadia and Sunny Deol who are lip-syncing for the voices of Asha Bhonsle and Shailendra Singh respectively.

This song has two parts, the first one is the duet, and second part is in the voice of Shailendra Singh which is the ‘third stanza’ of the duet repeated in slower version. This song stood at sixth rank in the ‘annual Binaca Geetmala of 1985’.

One song of ‘Manzil Manzil’ stood at rank twenty-three while one song from ‘Jawaani-1984’ ranked at number eleven and one song from the movie ‘Jhoothha Sach-1984’ appeared on in the annual list of Binaca Geetmala of 1985.

Let us have a look on the details of today’s movie now.

“Manzil Manzil” was directed by Nasir Hussain for his home productions ‘Nasir Hussain Films, Bombay’. Nasir Hussain was also the producer of this movie, and he wrote dialogues of this movie too.

This movie had Dimple Kapadia, Sunny Deol, Prem Chopra, Danny Dengzongpa, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tariq, T.P. Jain, Rinku Jaiswal, Sajida, Surendra Pal, Raj Bibra, Abid Sayyad, V. Malhotra, Ahmed Khan, Moijuddin, Meghdoot, D.S. Rana, K.K. Raj, Ramesh Goyal, Naveen Kumar, Dolly Jena, Anuradha, Leena Das, Jazbel, Nihal Khan, Hemendra Sinha, Deval Raiji and others.

Actor Feroz made his debut in this movie.

Asha Parekh and Ravindra Kapoor make friendly appearance sin this movie.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 26.09.1984.

# A tribute to Kavi Pradeep 11.12.2021#
————————————————

Today we remember Ramchandra Narayandut Dwivedi who is fondly knowns ‘Kavi Pradeep’ or ‘Rashtra Kavi Pradeep’. Today is his 23rd ‘Remembrance Day’.

He was born on 6th February,1915 and passed away on 11th December,1998 leaving treasure of his poems and songs sung by him in his immortal voice.

As I had mentioned in one of my posts on him here “I am short of words to describe his special ‘voice’ in words. As it is an altogether a very different experience or rather divine experience to listen the songs sung by him.”

I will not repeat the same again here. But I would again like to mention here that Kavi Pradeep is admired and loved by all. He has written over five hundred songs for movies and sung many songs (which could be less than fifty I think) for HFM.

He has immortalized himself in his creations and they will be cherished and discussed as long HFM is listened and discussed on this planet.

I would like to repeat that I always feel very happy to share his songs here on the blog. So, as a tribute to him, here is a song from the ‘1971’ movie ‘Kabhi Dhoop Kabhi Chhaaon’ on this occasion of today.

‘Kabhi Dhoop Kabhi Chhaaon-1971’ was directed by Chandrakant for ‘Joy Films, Bombay’.

Chandrakant was also the producer of this movie.

It had Dara Singh, Ameeta, Gutanjali, Jagdeep, Randhawa, Sapru, Tiwari, Ram Mohan, Renu, Mridula, B.M. Pande, Datta Shahpur, Babu, Sandow, Hindustani, Suresh Gor, Gulab, Pehelwan, Jooly, Deepak Trivedi, Mansoor, Mona and Sulochana.

Story and dialogues of this movie were written by Qabil Amritsari. Dialogue Direction was done by Ramesh Pande.

Editing of this movie was done by Ram Khade and Vithoba Surve.

This movie had eight songs (as per HFGK Vol-V, 1971-1980) penned by Kavi Pradeep (three songs) and Prem Dhawan (five songs).

Music for this film was composed by Chitragupta.

The eight songs from this movie were as listed below.

Song-Chal musaafir chal yahaan koi nahin tera (Kabhi Dhoop Kabhi Chhaaon)(1971) Singer-Kavi Pradeep Lyrics – Kavi Pradeep, Music – Chitragupt

Lyrics

samay ke haath ka kathhputla hai

samay badaa aa balwaan

em>chal musafir chal
yahaan koyi nahin tera
chal huaa poora

From the above table we can see that a total forty-six movies were released during this period of – September’1971 to December’1971.
Out of these forty-six movies mentioned above, two movies were songless movies. And on the blog, we have launched forty-one movies.
Out of these forty-one movies seventeen movies have already been covered for all songs from them and they have been Yippeeee’ed on the blog.

Three movies viz.’ Agent 999* (C.I.D. Agent 999*, Operation Jackpot)’, ‘Nanheen Kaliyaan’ and ‘Revolver Raani’ have yet to make a debut on the blog. As of now, the song from these movies seems to be not available.

(we will be taking a final view on the year ‘1971’ in another post to be presented soon on the blog 😊 That also gives an opportunity for one more song from ‘1971’ too 😊

For today’s post I am presenting a song from the movie ‘Saaz Aur Sanam-1971’. As we can see from above list there are as many as ‘twenty-four’ movies available where we can select a song from. However, I was looking for a ‘different’ song and one that is a lesser known. I think the song I have selected fulfils the condition 😊

‘Saaz Aur Sanam-1971’ was directed by J.B.H. Wadia for ‘Wadia Movieton, Bombay’.

It had Rekha, Premendra, Suresh Chatwal, Renu, Sapru, Poornima, Brahmachari, Bhagwan, Asit Sen, Ratan Kumar, Kirti Kumar, Hercules, Padma Kapoor, Bismillah, Dayanand, Dalda and others.

The movie introduced Rajanibala and Arvind.

This movie had five songs written by Kaifi Azmi and composed to music by Chitragupt.

Following is the detail of the songs of this movie as mentioned in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980).

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.12.1971.(so this is the same month it was passed by Censor Board, fifty years back) 😊

Today’s song is sung by Kishore Kumar and on screen it is lip synced by Premendra who is seen singing and teasing actress Rekha. There are many other artists (I could not identify the other prominent actor in the song) also seen in the picturization of this song.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie and its songs.

Let us enjoy today’s song now …

Song-Ye meri bala jaane hain kitne yahaan gham(Saaz Aur Sanam)(1971) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Kaifi Azmi, MD-Chitragupta

Lyrics

ho haa haa haa

laa laa laa laa laa
laa laa laa laa
ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya

ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya
saaz aur sanam

naghmaa wahi naghmaa
gham ko jo mitaa de
dilbar wahi dilbar
sitam jiska mazaa de
naghmaa wahi naghmaa
gham ko jo mitaa de
dilbar wahi dilbar
sitam jiska mazaa de
miley qaatil
kahaan kahaan
huaa ghaayal
kahaa kahaan
wahi manzil
wahi mehfil
jahaan rakh doon qadam
ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya
saaz aur sanam
saaz aur sanam

oye mehki huyi zulfen
behki si nigaahen
tumko nazarwaale
bhalaa kaise na chaahen
mehki huyi zulfen
behki si nigaahen
tumko nazarwaale
bhalaa kaise na chaahen
miley aankhen
jhuki jhuki
chali saansen
ruki ruki
zaraa chhalke
zaraa dhhalke
abhi masti hai kam
ye meri balaa jaane
hain kitne yahaan gham
mere dil ki haseen duniya
saaz aur sanam

I am in my tenth year of the association with this lovely blog. I think I have mentioned this in one of my earlier posts. When I started sending ‘lyrics contributions’ to Atul ji in ‘2012’ and subsequently in ‘2013’ & ‘2014’ I was sending many songs in a single day. At that time the blog was ‘clocking’ four to six posts in a single day. However the number of posts got reduced subsequently. Nowadays we have only ‘one post or song in a day’ 😊

Now, when I go through the list of songs pending from those days, even I am surprised how I was able to send ‘many’ songs in those days. Well, the subject of today’s post is one such song which is still pending from that list.

The song is from the movie ‘Sandesh-1952’. This movie had debuted on the blog on 27.05.2013. So far, five songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. All these five songs have been shared by ‘yours sincerely’ 😊 I like all these six songs from this movie and had enjoyed a lot sharing the earlier songs. After today’s post this movie will be only two songs away from being ‘Yippeeeed’ on the blog.

“Sandesh-1952” was directed by Bal Gajbar for ‘Sandesh Pictures, Bombay’. This movie had Durga Khote, Umesh Sharma, Lalita Pawar, Kumud Lele, Meenakshi, Arvind, Nana Palsikar, Neeru, Vikas, Madan, Angrey, Priyadarshi, Dwarkanath, Nigam, Tilak Sharma, Shukla and others.

“Sandesh-1952” had eight songs in it wherein three lyricists Kumud Tripathi (six songs), Manohar Khanna (one song) and Nihal Chand Jain (Nihal Ujhanvi) (one song) had written these eight songs.

Music for this film was composed by S. Purushottam.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 06.09.1952.

Here is the brief about this movie which our inhouse encyclopedia Shri. Arunkumar Deshmukh ji had mentioned in his comments on the song-post of 05.06.2013 of this movie.

SANDESH-1952 was a film Directed by Bal Gajbar-who was a known name in Marathi films, but, in Hindi, he was a total failure.
This was a story of a doctor with distorted principles. Dinanath’s father Vidyadhar, an honest and straight forward School teacher is falsely implicated in cases of treason and mutiny against the British and is convicted in 1922. This shock takes Vidyadhar’s life.
Dinanath and his mother go to Kashinath who was a favorite student of Vidyadhar, for help. Kashinath promises Dinanath that he will make him a doctor. During his education, Dinanath falls in love with a rich Barrister’s daughter Sudha, but their marriage cannot take place as Dinanath is very poor. She gets married to his classmate.
Dinanath goes to England and when he comes back as a doctor, he becomes only money minded, as he realises the value of money in this world. Due to his, this nature, his mother Saraswati bai leaves him.

One day, his mother meets with an accident and is brought to his Hospital, but she refuses to be treated by him. he realises that relations are more important than money and a doctor’s profession is a noble one.

He repents and changes himself. meanwhile, Sudha gets a divorce, and they meet again and unite, finally.

The Hero of the film was Umesh Sharma, who acted in Deepak-51 and Apna desh-49 also as a Hero. later he worked in many other roles, as well as a writer, director, and producer also. he acted in 33 films. He was the writer of the famous film BOMBAY-1995.

S. PURUSHOTTAM was the Music Director. He was born in Kolhapur in 1919 and rose as an assistant to Kumar gandharva in his mehfils. V. Shantaram tried to help him by giving 2 films,Bhool-1948 and Apna Desh-49. though he gave very good music, but his luck did not favour him. he also gave music for 2 songs in Dahej-1950, Mere Laal-48, Devyani-52 and Sandesh-52.
He became so dejected that he left films and went back to Kumar Gandharva as his assistant in mehfils.

Following is the list of songs of this movie.

As mentioned above five songs from this movie have already been posted on the blog earlier. Let us today enjoy a song from this movie after a long gap of ‘seven’ years and take this movie a little closer to ‘Yippeeee’land’ 😊

Today’s song is sung by Manik Verma, and lyrics have been penned by Kumud Tripathi.

Music is composed by S. Purushottam.

Only the audio of this is available.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Let us now listen to today’s song …

4900 Post No. : 16704

I had earlier shared a song from the movie ‘Himmat-1970’. The title of the song is ‘himmat kare insaan to kya kar nahin saktaa’. This song was posted on 03.11.2020. I had mentioned in this song-post that the song was noted by me long back i.e., in 2013.

Around the same time, I came across today’s song which is ‘agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya kar nahin saktaa’. This song is from the ‘1942’ film ‘Jungle Princess’. Today I am presenting this song.

“Jungle Princess-1942’ was directed by Homi Wadia for ‘Wadia Movietone, Bombay’.

It had Nadia, Radharani, Baby Madhuri, Shahzadi, John Kawas, Sardar Mansoor, Dalpat, Hari Shivdasani, Jal Khambata, Mitthu Miyaan, M.K. Hasan, Jiji Bhai, Gulshan Sufi and others.
As mentioned in HFGK Vol-II (1941-1950) this movie had eight songs. All these eight songs were penned by Pandit Indra. Music for this film was composed by Madhavlal D. Master.

Following is the list of songs of this movie.

S. No Song-Title Singer/s Posted On
01 Chali ri naav tu chal aage chal ri chal Gulshan Sufi, Mehdi Raza
02 Jo koyi isko peeve naam uska door hove ? (Not mentioned in HFGK) 01.03.2013

05 Kasam Jawaani ki ham to hai naadaan Radharani 20.04.2013

07 O mainaa mastaani, o pinjre ki raani Radharani, chorus 25.04.2013
08 Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya kar nahin saktaa Sardar Mansoor Being discussed today

We can see from the above table that four songs from this movie ‘Jungle Princess-1942’ have been posted on the blog. All these four songs were covered in ‘2013’. In other words, eight years have passed since without any further addition to the tally of songs in this movie.

Today’s song is the fifth song from this movie to be presented here.

Today’s song is sung by Sardar Mansoor. Lyrics are by Pandit Indra and music is composed by Madhavlal Damodar Master.

Let us listen to today’s song which consists of some good ‘Urdu’ poetry.

Song-Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya kar nahin sakta (Jungle Princess)(1942) Singer-Sardar Mansoor, Lyrics-Pandit Indra, MD-Madhulal Damodar Master

Lyrics

Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya

Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya

Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya

Sadaakat jiska jeena hai
Shaahaadat jiska marna hai
Wo mar jaata hai lekin
Naam uska mar nahin sakta
Wo mar jaata hai lekin
Naam uska mar nahin sakta
Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya
Kar nahin sakta

Tu apni raah chalta ja
Na darr thhokar se aye bande
Khuda jiska sahaara hai
Khuda aa jiska sahaara hai
Bashar wo gir nahin sakta
Khuda jiska sahaara hai
Bashar wo gir nahin sakta
Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya
Kar nahin sakta
Agar insaan mein himmat ho to kya
Kar nahin sakta

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
———————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 153 # Rafi Saab’s ninety-seventh birth anniversary#
———————————————

Today 24th December’2021 is the ninety-seventh birth anniversary of legendary singer Mohd Rafi (24.12.1924-31.07.1980).

Much has already been said and written about Rafi Saab on this blog and elsewhere. What I will say will be nothing new, so I will not go into his biography and other details.

For me he will always be ‘a divine messenger of humanity and a divine voice’.

Today on his birth anniversary we remember him and pay our tributes. On this occasion I am presenting a song from ‘1972’ movie ‘Kaun Sachchaa Kaun Jhoothha’.

‘Kaun Sachchaa Kaun Jhoothha-1972’ was directed by Jankiram for P.S.R. Pictures, Madras. Jankiram had also done the photography of this movie.

This movie was produced by P. Subbarao. It had Vijaylalita, Jyotilakshami, Krishna, Prabhakar Reddy, Tyagraju, Ramdas, Padmashri V. Nagiyah, Lakshamichhaya, Junior Kanchana, Helen, and others.

Story and screenplay of this movie was written by A.M. Samiyulla. Dialogues were written by Raj Joshi. Editing of this film was done by Kandaswamy.

This movie was passed by Censor Board on 26.08.1972. That means this movie will be completing its fifty years in August’2022.

This movie had six songs written by Kewal and composed by Satyam. Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Preeti, L.R. Eswari and Madhukar had given their voices to the songs in this movie.

One song from this movie have been posted on the blog. This post was presented by Sudhir ji, and it can be read in detail here. This movie ‘Kaun Sachcha Kaun Jhoothha’ was a dubbed movie. The original movie was in Telugu language.

The list of the songs the Hindi version has is as given below.

SNo Title of the song Singer/s Posted On
01 Chalna zindagaani, duniya behta paani Mohd Rafi 07.03.2016
02 Dekho jawaani chham chham naache re Asha Bhonsle
03 Meri raani mat jaa, pyaar tujhe kar loon Mohd Rafi, Preeti
04 Sawaal hai kaisa mera Asha Bhonsle
05 Haay, haay, haay, haay, sun jaa Madhukar, L.R. Eswari
06 Karam nahin mit’ta, dharam nahin bikta Mohd Rafi Being discussed today

We can see from the above table that one song of this movie ‘Kaun Sachchaa Kaun Jhoothha’ has been posted on the blog on 07.03.2016. Today we are going to listen to the second song of this movie which again is a solo song sung by Rafi Saab. I had come across this song during my daily browsing of the song long back. However, this song is yet to be posted and today we are going to have it on this blog.

Let us listen to this song and remember the divine voice – Rafi Saab!

(PS: I was about to finish this article and had written these lines – ‘I wonder if the Hindi (dubbed) version of this movie is available online or elsewhere’. But when I checked online this movie is already available online. And one can watch it there.
I have only now watched the picturization of today’s song which shows the hero as a ‘robin hood type’ character and he is riding on the horse. That may remind many of the famous Hindi movie ‘robin hood characters’ riding on the horse and singing or a song playing in the background. But this song though nice, fails to create the impact like ‘jeewan mein tu darna nahin’. 😊 )

Date: – 11.12.2021

Today is 11th December’2021 and its still thirteen days’ wait for the release of the movie ‘83’ on the big screen. I am eagerly waiting to watch this movie on its very first day and if possible, I will be watching its ‘first show’ whether it’s a morning or noon show 😊

In fact, I am waiting for this movie for more than a year since it was originally planned for a theatrical release in April’2020. However due to ‘Corona Pandemic’ its release kept getting postponing to new dates and nfinally it will be released on 24th December2021.

The year 1983 has been an important year of my life when I appeared for my tenth standard board exams in March-April 1983, and we were waiting for the results to be declared in June 1983.
Secondly it was the most memorable year for us- cricket loving and cricket playing boys- as India emerged victorious in the ‘1983’ cricket world cup.

I got to watch the teaser of this movie around 29th November 2021, and the teaser mentioned that the official trailer of the movie would be released on 30th November’2021. So, I was eagerly waiting to watch the ‘trailer’ because the teaser itself was very interesting.

On 30th November I watched the trailer of this movie, and I was lost in nostalgia of this famous win of Indian Cricket Team. Since then, I have been regularly watching the trailer (in Hindi and other languages) twice or thrice daily.

On 6th December2021 this song ‘lehraa do’ from this movie was released on YT and it gives me goose bumps everytime I watch it. I am thrilled and now impatiently waiting for the release of this movie in theatres. I am sure I am going to enjoy it on the big screen, with emotions and memories playing in the ‘flashback’ in my mind.

Date: – 17.12.2021

One week to go for ‘83’ to release in theatres. As said earlier I am already very excited to watch this movie on big screen. For the last few days I have been watching its trailer daily . On the last Sunday I watched the trailer and its song ‘lehraa do’ again on my TV at home (earlier I was watching it on the laptop 😊).

Due to my regular clicking to this movie trailer and other associated visuals of the 1983 world cup, the suggestions appearing on YT are also filled with the videos of the interviews of the real heroes of the 1983 cup, their appearances on TV show, there appearances on the launch of the movie, its poster, and similar things.

Other than the trailer of this movie ‘83’ what I watched during the recent days is the highlights of the final match of ‘world cricket cup 1983’, and highlights of the semifinal between India and England.

I repeatedly watched the famous catch of Vivian Richards by Kapil Dev in the finals.

TV had not arrived in our colony when India won the world cup in 1983. We had to listen to the commentary on Radio only. However, the ‘video parlors’ had come up in the nearest city – Akola. The operators arranged the video of the finals, after India’s famous win, for a ticket of Rs. 10/- with a complimentary cold drink.

I recall that the print of the video was not good or it may have been a copied version. But whatever was available was enough for us to enjoy the win. (My board exam results were already declared on 17th June, and I had passed in first class with 72% marks only. And now I was applying for polytechnic courses and filling up forms and submitting them. This gave me chance of visiting the city frequently. Slowly I was more on watching movies in theatres and video parlors. 😊 )

Coming back to cricket again, I was discussing about the memories of ‘world cup 1983’. As mentioned earlier, we (me and group of friends) enjoyed all the matches while listening to the commentary on Radio/Transistors.

I could not forget how I walked alone in the ground near my house with my transistor to listen to the commentary of the India-Zimbabwe match of 18th June’1983.

I recall that I had gone to the city Akola on this day of 18th June’1983. I no longer recall the purpose of that visit.

I came back from Akola by train to Paras. Reaching there I could not get any transport and decided to go home by walking. On the way I was asking friends (who had their homes on the way) the score of the match which was played between India and Zimbabwe.

I was shocked to know that India had already lost four wickets. By the time I reached home and grabbed the control of the transistor. The commentary with lot of disturbance in the network, informed me that India had lost five wickets.

In order to get better reception, I took the transistor to open field near our house where we used to play cricket. By this time Kapil Dev had started scoring runs and I was holding the transistor closer to my ears not to miss the exciting commentary of that ‘famous match’.
When I try to recollect, I can not remember more than this (now my memory is also deteriorating day by day I think 😊)

My guess is that the story of this match must be the ‘high-point’ of this movie, or it could be more than that. We all are aware that no camera team was available that day at the Royal Tunbridge Wells stadium to cover the visuals of this match. So, the video of this match is not available. (However, some photographs (very few) are said to be available now).

As a cricket fan of that era what more could we ask for than a ‘complete movie’ on this historic India win where Kapil Dev led the team to this triumph.

The eager wait is finally over. We are going to enjoy the ‘true story’ on the bigger screens on the coming 24th december 2021. Watching the movie-trailers, and other promos almost daily, has put me in full ‘83’ mode now … Other than this I also enjoyed a TV show/s where all the members of this team come together and shared the anecdotes of the tournament.
Moreover, there is one clip of the launch of the poster of the movie in Chennai and here we have Kapil Dev, Srikkanth, Kamal Hasan, other promoters of the movie and all the team member actors 😊

I had forgotten many statistics of this tournament for India’s matches so I revisited them on wiki-pages and revived the nostalgia associated with those beautiful days.

At this point we will have a brief look on India’s journey in this tournament.

SNo. Date Opponent Team Ground Scores (India/ Other Team) Result of the match
GROUP MATCHES
01 09.06.1983 West Indies Old Trafford, Manchester 262/8, 228 India won by 34 runs
02 11.06.1983 Zimbabwe Grace Road, Leicester 157/5, 155 India won by 5 wickets
03 13.06.1983 Australia Trent Bridge, Nottingham 158, 320/9 Australia won by 162 runs
04 15.06.1983 West Indies The Oval, London 216, 282/9 West Indies won by 66 runs
05 18.06.1983 Zimbabwe Nevill ground, Royal Tunbridge Wells 266/8. 235 India won by 31 runs
06 20.06.1983 Australia County ground, Chelmsford 247. 129 India won by 118 runs
KNOCK-OUT MATCHES
07 22.06.1983 England Old Trafford, Manchester 217/04. 217 India won by 6 wickets
FINALS
08 25.06.1983 West Indies Lords, London 183, 140 India won by 43 runs

One thing I specially want to mention here is about the atmosphere at the night of 25th June’1983. Everybody at home and in the neighborhood were all excited and celebrating the win. I went to sleep to rise as early as possible the next day. And while the evening of 25th June’1983 was great for all, the morning of 26th June’1983 was not less than that. There were more celebrations. All the newspapers were carrying the news of India’s historic win.

Our group of cricket-playing boys had gathered and took a round of the whole colony decorating the roads and walls of common places like club etc. we were ‘shouting’ 😊 slogans of India’s win and roaming around with joy. That was a very ‘special Sunday’ for all Indians.

At this point I would like to reproduce a brief from the ‘Moments of History’ on completion of India’s 64 years of freedom on August 15th, 2011. This was shared to me by my Guruji on mail. The winning of 1983 world cup is mentioned as below in the ‘visual chronology of post-Independent India-moments that stood out in each year of the nation’s triumphant, troubled history’ –

1983 – Kapil’s Devils go from underdogs to top dogs

Seen as underdogs going into the tournament with no hopes of clearing the league matches, the Kapil Dev-led Indian cricket team triumphed over all odds, including wagers of 100-1 in favour of the Windies in the finals of the World Cup. With a modest score of 183 to defend, the match, and subsequently the trophy, belonged to the Indian medium-pacers. When Balwinder Singh Sandhu swung the ball, Gordon Greenidge had no other choice but to edge it, helping India to its first wicket. WI’s swashbuckling batsmen had a rather meek task of adding runs to the scoreboard in little trickles, but some smart bowling, swift fielding and superlative catches by the Indian team ensured that the Cup belonged to India and India alone on that unforgettable day of June 25, 1983.

The online advance bookings for the movie ‘83’ has started from today. As I mentioned earlier, I am going to book tickets for first day first show. The earliest show starts at 08:00 in the morning. And next is 08:15 am and 08:30 am at different locations. I should be able to catch the 08:30 show. 😊

Earlier I had planned that my younger daughter and I could be going to watch this movie as other members would be busy. But now my wife is also insisting to watch the first day – first show with me 😊. Watching the trailers of the movie have triggered her interest to watch this movie with me 😊

One slight change – now my elder daughter will be joining us in watching this movie. One family friend from her office will also join us. My younger daughter will not be able to come as she has coaching assignment that day. Maybe she will join me in my repeat watch of this movie. 😊

Meanwhile the movie’s promotional video was shown at ‘Burj Khalifa- UAE’ on 16.12.2021 evening.

As in the news now, the movie has been screened for special invites and dignitaries. Everybody is praising the director of this movie Kabir Khan and main actor Ranveer Singh. The transformation of the actors into the ‘83’ players and their nuanced performances have been appreciated by all ‘reviews’ so far.

Also, the movie is carrying many things not known to us e.g., what was going in the minds of the players then in 1983, what personal problems they faced, and how they kept playing against all odds to win the cup.

Regarding the players of this 1983 Team, I would just quote here what Kapil Paa ji has said about his teammates on TV when the movie was launched.
“inko handle karnaa aasaan nahin tha. Ye bade character hain, aap ke liye bahot mushkil kaam honewaala hai aise character dhoondhne India mein. Aap ko nahin mil sakte, aap koshish kar sakte hain, par mil nahin sakte”

I guess Kapil Dev is saying this to the director of this movie Kabir Khan when they launched this movie four years back.

I remember the book which I had read in 2015-16 wherein Balwinder Singh Sandhu is the co-author of the book. This book is ‘The Devil’s Pack’. I would suggest that all cricket lovers of that era and current era should read this book.

Here is the brief about this book. (Reproduced from amazon.in).

When India participated in the 1983 Cricket World Cup, a handful of cricketing pundits singled the team out as a dark horse, but few expected them to win. They were up against the West Indies, England Australia, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan, all of whom had a greater reputation. India had also performed disastrously in the two previous world cup editions. But there was something different about the Indian squad of 1983. Each player in that team dreamt big, worked hard, contributed immensely to the team effort and above all, truly loved the game. Led from the front by Kapil Dev, it was a team whose members were intriguing personalities, many of whom went on to be cricketing legends.

In this book, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, a member of that 1983 squad, talks about his team-mates, drawing an intimate portrait of India’s cricketing greats. He reveals previously unknown facts about the players, the stress they faced, their behaviour off the field and how they pushed one another to excel. The Devil’s Pack is the story of a group of cricketers, seen from up-close and how they conquered the cricketing world against all odds.

Blog Day :

4911 Post No. : 16728

Today 28th December’2021 is the fifty-third remembrance anniversary of music director Husnlal (born 1918 as per Wikipedia – death 28th December’1968) of the famous music duo of the golden age of Hindi Film Music – Husnlal Bhagatram.

On this occasion here is a song from the ‘1950’ movie ‘Apni Chhaaya’. This movie had ten songs – two songs were composed by Music Director Hanuman Prasad. And the rest eight songs were composed by Husnlal-Bhagatram.

‘Apni Chhaya-1950’ was directed by P.L. Santoshi for ‘Chitralaya Limited, Bombay’.

It had Sulochana Chatterjee, Balwant Singh, Radhakishan, Mumtaz Ali, Sajjan, Tiwari, Ramsingh, Dulari, Mona, Neelam, Satyarani, Jawahar Kaul, Baba Raja, Narbada Shankar, Karadkar, Niranjan, Madan Singh, Kukku and others.

The list of the ten songs this movie had is as given below (as mentioned in HFGK Vol-II (1941-1950).
All the ten songs in this movie were written by P.L. Santoshi.

SNo Song Title Singer/s Music Director Posted On
01 O saathh saal ka dulha, dekho ji G.M. Durrani, chorus Husnlal-Bhagatram
02 Ae ji bade bade mehlon se wo ghar bhale Lata, Chitalkar Husnlal-Bhagatram 12.10.2020
03 Ae ji zindagi hai roshan* Khushi ki ye ghadiyaan mubaarak mubaarak Shamshad Begam, Mohd Rafi Hanuman Prasad 09.07.2020
04 Tu bole na bole, nigaah teri bole Meena Kapoor Husnlal-Bhagatram
05 Duniya* ke dukh hare hain Lalita Dewoolkar Husnlal-Bhagatram
06 Kaale kaale baadal chhaaye piya Shamshad Begam, Mukesh Hanuman Prasad 04.02.2014
07 Jawaani ne ishaara kiya Meena Kapoor Husnlal-Bhagatram 15.12.2013
08 Jab yaad tumhaari aayi re Husnlal-Bhagatram
09 Andhiyaare ghar mein jyot jali Lata Husnlal-Bhagatram 24.10.2016
10 Ho mere piyaa, ho mere piyaa Husnlal-Bhagatram

* Today’s song is the song five mentioned above. Though HFGK and link titles mention this track as ‘dukhiyaa ke dukh hare hain’ , I think this needs to be corrected as ‘duniya ke dukh hare hain tumne’.

(Also, the song number three is mentioned in HFGK as ‘ae ji zindagi hai roshan’ but these words do not appear in the song ‘khushi ki ye ghadiyaan mubaarak mubaarak’. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw light on this song please.)

Let us now listen to the today’s song and pay our tributes to music director Husnlal on his remembrance anniversary today. Today’s song is sung by Lalita Dewoolkar, and lyrics are by P.L. Santoshi.

As mentioned above music for the today’s song is composed by Husnlal-Bhagatram.
