‘Maalik-1972’ (passed by Censor Board on 26.10.1972) was directed by A. Bhim Singh for ‘Bharat Movies, Madras’. It was produced by Vasu Menon. It had Sharmila Tagore, Rajesh Khanna, Deven Verma, Sonia Sahni, Bipin Gupta, Shivraj, Umesh Sharma, N.S. Bedi, Prem Kumar, Kabir Kumar, Baby Pinki and Ashok Kumar (in Special Appearance).

Story of this movie was written by Balamurugan. Dialogues of this movie were written by Rajinder Krishan (who also wrote the lyrics for all songs in this movie). Editing of this movie was done by A. Paul Doraisingam. N.S. Bedi was also the dialogue director of this movie.

This movie had as many as thirteen songs as listed in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980). Out of these thirteen songs, name of the singer is not mentioned for one song.
Out of the remaining twelve songs we had one solo sung by Kishore Kumar, one solo by Lata Mangeshkar, three solo songs sung by Mahendra Kapoor and seven duets of Mahendra Kapoor with Lata Mangeshkar.

Music of this film is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

I had initially shared only the Mahendra Kapoor version of this song in 2012 and I was only aware of that version. However after I got my HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980) copy I came to know through it that this song has a duet version also. From that time I was looking for this duet version. But it was not easily available all these years. Now it is available on internet from January 2022 when it was made available online by ‘saregama’. I guess that this duet version has not been included in the movie because the video of this song is not available and I do not remember to have watched it in the movie when I watched it during 1983-1985 on TV. Knowledgeable readers can throw more light on this due version please.

#the Decade of 2001-2010 #
———————————————————————

Regulars on this blog are familiar about the common interests of the team of this blog. First, it is songs and movies of course, one is cricket and the other most important is Railway or train or Indian Railways specifically. Everybody has a big admiration for the railway services and the efforts they put day in – day out to keep this country ‘moving’. Train travel is the safest and cheap (too) journey for the common citizens of this country as it has been for the last many many years. Then there is the ‘nostalgia’ people have for their life’s years associated of travelling to various places by train. People migrating to far away places from their hometown or staying far from their families for earnings always have many memories associated with train travel of reaching homes when everybody is waiting for them. When one travels in train he gets to have interaction with people from different parts of the country and some of them become friends during the travel and thus one gets to about diverse cultures too. The many journeys also teach one a lot and also tell us about the uncertainties in life and how life has been to the so many others than one self. The ‘Indian Railways’ plays a big role in ‘national –integration’ and it is also source of inspiration for many people like me.

So, naturally our movies have many songs which we ‘categorize’ as train/trail songs. On this blog we have many such songs already covered earlier. Majority of these songs also give us ‘the philosophy of life’ and are symbolic to the ‘journey’ of our life and the obstacles we faced. Our lyricist and composers have given us many timeless classic ‘train/rail songs’. Many movies from the earlier decades have shot beautiful locations of railway stations, the surroundings there and watching them is always such a pleasure and nostalgia relived. Some movie have their stories where ‘railway station or train’ is a central plot in the movie or it acts as a sub-plot there.

Today we have passed a ‘time-line’ on calendar and from tomorrow there will be a new beginning with a new date in the history of man-kind. On this occasion I always find it appropriate to look back and look forward our life with a ‘train song’. I had noted this song almost six years back and it is still lying to be posted. It is from a recent movie – “The Train -2007” but it also has a ‘tag line’ with it, and that is the part of its title also, it is “The Train – Some lines should never be crossed”

“The Train – Some lines should never be crossed…-2007” was directed by Raksha Mistry and Hasnain S Hyderabadawala. It was produced by Narendra Bajaj. And this movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.05.2007. The cast of this movie included Emraan Hashmi, Geeta Basra, Suresh N Menon, Rajat Bedi, Ananth Mahadevan, Ashok Benewal, Sukhwinder, Saurav Sharma, Aditi Bhatia (child artist), and Aseem Merchant. This movie introduced actress Sayali Bhagat. Rajesh Kattar and Anita Wahi had special appearance in this movie. Screenplay of this movie was written by Janak-Hriday and dialogues were written by Sanjay Masoom. Bunty Nagi had done the editing of this movie and his associate was Prashant Sing Rathore. This movie has soundtracks as per information available on internet. Sayeed Quadri is the lyricist for all the songs in this movie and music is composed by Mithhoon.

Here is the plot of this movie as given on ‘Wikipedia’.

Vishal Dixit, a middle-class man in Bangkok, struggles with his deteriorating marriage and his daughter Nikki’s critical need for a kidney operation. His life takes a turn when he meets Richa Malhotra (posing as Roma Kapoor), a woman in a similar unhappy marriage. Their affair leads to them being blackmailed by Tony, a criminal who ultimately reveals himself as Richa’s accomplice.
Vishal’s attempts to pay off Tony drain his savings, including money meant for Nikki’s surgery. When he learns Richa and Tony are con artists, he tracks them down, leading to a confrontation where both Richa and Tony are killed in a gunfight. Vishal retrieves his stolen money from the hotel safe and returns to his family. Nikki’s surgery is successful, and Vishal reconciles with his wife, Anjali, promising a fresh start.

The song appears in the movie at the end and in the background when the ‘titles/credits’ are rolling on screen. So, this song happens in the movie when ‘EVERYTHING IS BACK ON THE TRACK’ … let us all keep moving on the track …

Lyrics are by Sayeed Quadri and music is composed by Mithhoon.

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # # Dhan Daulat-1980#
——————————————

Today’s song is from the ‘1980’ movie ‘Dhan Daulat’. I never watched this movie in those growing years of mine. And later also I did not get any opportunity to watch it on video or elsewhere. I had noted that this movie was made available on an OTT platform, may be few months back, but now it has been removed from there due to ‘rights’ issue. Moviegoers and music lovers are aware of the most popular song from this movie i.e. the song ‘jeenaa kyaa ajee pyaar binaa’. I too remember to have frequently heard this song either on radio or loudspeakers then. From the remaining songs of this movie the song ‘ho jaaye phir us din kaa jo waadaa hai’, & ‘khudkushi karne dil mein iraadaa kar liya maine’ are also familiar to me. I became aware of the song ‘shikwaa na tumse koi’ when it was posted on the blog under the blog ten-year challenge in 2020. The fifth song from this movie is the song under discussion. I do not remember to have listened to this song before corona years 2020. I have been listening to this song many times ever since and I ave like this song very much.

‘Dhan Daulat-1980’ was directed by Harish Shah for ‘Shilpkar, Bombay’. It was a movie from a ‘social’ genre movie and its producer was Vinod Shah. The cast of this movie has Rajendra Kumar, Mala Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, Neetu Singh, Prem Chopra, Premnath, Pran, Sujit Kumar, Madan Puri, Agha, Sajjan, Kirti Kumar, Azad, Ranveer Raj, Shyam, Amal Sen, Amarnath Mukherjee, Birbal, Yusuf Khan, Master Sandeep and others. Kader Khan, Daljeet Kaur, Preeti Ganguly, Asit Sen, Jagdish Raj, and Master Raju had a guest appearance in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 07.01.1980. Story of this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick and its dialogues were written by Sagar Sarhadi.

As mentioned above ‘Dhan Daulat-1980’ has five songs, which were all written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by Rahul Dev Burman. Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Master Raju had given their voices to the songs in this movie. Two songs from this movie have already been posted on the blog.

No song from this movie ‘Dhan Daulat’ featured in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of that year 1980. May be because this movie was not a successful movie and it is now ranked at number fifty-seven among the top grossers and successful movies of the year ‘1980’ as per IMDB. The movies up to the rank of forty-five are considered at successful movies there. The story of this movie ‘Dhan Daulat-1980’ offers nothing new and it is a familiar story that we have watched in many Hindi movies.

Here is a brief about the plot of this movie which has been mentioned on sources on internet.

Raj Saxena (Rajendra Kumar) and Vasudha (Mala Sinha) love each other and want to marry. But Raj’s parents oppose to it and Raj is forced to abandon Vasudha, but he is not aware that she is pregnant. Vasudha gives birth to a male child and leaves him in a truck (so this child grows as ‘truck ka phool and not ‘dhool ka phool’). The truck driver duo Mangat (Premnath) and Bajirao (Pran) bring this child to their home and look after him dreaming of growing up him to a good person. They give him a name ‘Lucky’. Lucky grows up as a street-boy and do all mischievous things, be it his studies or in general in and around home (as is typical for a ‘Bombay-street-boy’ Hindi film hero then).

One day Shanti (Neetu Singh) is passing through Lucky’s house where he is locked by his father duo, but Shanti didn’t help him out. Now Lucky is after Shanti and soon develops a liking for her. Once incidentally Lucky meets Vasudha who is running a small shop. Some hoodlums troubled Vasudha and destroy her shop. Lucky brings Vasudha to his home. Lucky wants to marry Shanti. But Shanti’s father (Madan Puri) dislikes Lucky as he has no ‘status’, no family background and do not have job and in turn money too. Vasudha, Mangat and Bajirao suggest Lucky that he will have to stand on his own, so he starts a business of ‘match boxes’. His rival in business is his own father Raj Saxena, which Lucky is not aware of. The rivalry in business takes extreme turns where finally Raj succeeds in ruining the business of Lucky. Meanwhile Lucky comes to know that he was adopted by Mangat and Bajirao and they are not his parents. Vasudha also hears their conversation but could not come into open and telling Lucky that she is his mother. Lucky understands that he needs to earn money ‘by any way’ to be a successful person and to marry Shanti and took the revenge of his insult by Shanti’s father. He had once stolen the horse of Sujit Chopra (Prem Chopra) to impress Shanti. After knowing this Sujit got interested in Lucky. Lucky joins hands with Sujit Chopra who is in the business of ‘illegal businesses’ to amass wealth.

At this turning point in Lucky’s life Sudhir Chopra who is hosting a party welcomes Lucky to the new world of wealth and glamour, drinking and womanizing. This is also the situation where we have the today’s song played on the screen. We have Daljit Kaur (as Party singer) lip syncing for Asha Bhonsle’s voice and Rishi Kapoor (as Lucky) lip syncing for the voice of Kishore Kumar in this wonderful song. The composition by Rahul Dev Burman is a vibrant and energetic composition giving the perfect tone of celebration, enjoyment, and excitement of a new beginning in world of glamour and wealth.

What happens in the end of this movie ‘Dhan Daulat’ is anybody’s guess, so I am not discussing that here.

I was holding this song for a special occasion like anniversaries of the composer of this song i.e. Rahul Dev Burman, or the lyricist of this song i.e. Majrooh Sultanpuri. But somehow it could not be materialized so far. Today’s occasion may not be that special, but it is a special occasion to look forward for me (not for money but in search of the wealth of ‘musical treasure trove’), and today’s song is a song which motivates and suggests moving forward instead of dwelling in the past. So I am presenting this wonderful song here today.

This song may not be a well-known song but I feel that it deserved to be a well-known song coming from Pancham. The songs starts with notes of ‘pa pa paa aa paa paa aa’ in the voice of Asha Bhonsle. Pancham Da had already been doing the experimenting with the wide range of Asha Bhonsle’s voice in those years and had started the trend of warbling using monotonic notes at different intervals in a song where the lyrics could not fit into properly in the meter of the song and to bring back the song to main tune e.g. in the songs like ‘jab andheraa hota hai’ (Raajaa Raani), ‘dekho mujhe dekho’ (Hamshakal) etc*. In the today’s song we find Pancham Da using the ‘bossa nova’, incorporating changes in the scale while shifting between the voices of Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar instead of using instruments as would have been in normal cases. The rhythm, beats, percussions, strings, chorus in this song has been blended well in music by Rahul Dev Burman. The lyrics by Majrooh Saab are also excellent. And that makes this song a ‘gem’ of a song which could not get the well deserved appreciation.

As mentioned above none of the songs from ‘Dhan Daulat-1980’ had featured in the annual list of ‘Binaca Geetmala’ of the year ‘1980’. Though songs composed by Pancham from the movies ‘Naukar-1979’, ‘Abdullah-1980’, ‘Golmaal-1979’, ‘Kudrat-1981’, ‘The Burning Train-1980’, ‘Jurmaanaa-1979’ find a place there. Topper of the annual Binaca Geetmala 1980 was ‘daflee waale daflee bajaa’ from ‘Sargam-1979’.

Let us now enjoy the song where the lyrics give us the similar feeling of the situation of the song ‘mud mud ke naa dekh’ from the movie Shri 420.

PS: The video of this song is found removed due to copyright issues now. It was there a just a day before.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Singer Manna Dey Birth Anniversary)
——————————————-———————————————

Today 1st of May 2025 is the one hundred and sixth birth anniversary of one of the legendary singers in the history of Hindi Films – Manna Dey. He was born on 1st of May 1919 and he passed away on 24th October 2013. On this occasion as a tribute to him I am presenting a sung by him from the movie ‘Pal Do Pal Kaa Saath-1978’.

‘Pal Do Pal Ka Saath-1978’ was directed by B.R. Ishara for ‘Kaveri Films, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 07.04.1978. It had Shekhar Kapoor, Rama Vij, Shyamlee (New Discovery), and Asit Sen, Paintal, Johny Whisky, Aarti, Tiger, Mishri Lal, Mohammad Ali, Amal Sen, Narayan Gwalani, Hameed, Sitaram, Jasbir, Prakash Joshi, Vijay Nangia, Bhaiyalal Sharma, Kashi Prasad Chaurasia and others.

This movie had four songs penned by Naqsh Lyallpuri, Yogesh, Balkavi Bairagi and Dev Kohli. Music for this movie was composed by Shyam Saagar.

This movie made its debut on the blog on 22.09.2014 where its’ song ‘Phir wahi shaam… chupke se peechhe se aa ke’ sung by Rafi Saab was presented by our Respected Shri Sudhir jee. The lyricist for this song is Dev Kohli. While presenting the above song Sudhir jee had mentioned in his post that this movie seemed to be an obscure movie though it had gems of songs (‘veritable gems’ as Sudhir jee has mentioned in his post). Later I presented the second song from this movie on the blog on 26.04.2018 and this song was ‘Anuraagi man sab kuchh seh le’ sung by Mukesh and penned by Yogesh. I had neither heard about his movie in my growing years nor heard its songs prior to the above post.

This movie is not even available to watch now which means it must be a very obscure movie of its time. No information about the story or other details about this movie are available on internet. When I presented the song sung by Mukesh from this movie I had not listened to the other songs except the Rafi song (since it was already here) from this movie. Moreover, when I presented the Mukesh song, the remaining two songs from this movie were not available online.

Later we added the third song from this movie ‘Sajaa lee teri bindiyaa… Ye Raadha Kanhaiyya ka naam kaise le’, on the blog on 13.05.2023 after the audio of this song became available online. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and the lyricist of this song is Balkavi Bairagi.

Today’s song is the final song from this movie ‘Pal Do Pal Kaa Saath-1978’. This song was lying ready for long but I was searching for information about the plot or story of this movie but I couldn’t find anything to add here. Only some information about the actress Shyamlee, added by some readers have become available. Her father was working in a bank where singer Kishore Kumar used to visit and the actress’s father had approached Kishore Kumar for his daughter’s entry into films and that is how she got into films. Her real name was Shyamlee Nadkarni. Her first Hindi film was ‘Dil Se Miley Dil’ which had a delayed release. She also appeared in movies like ‘Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Mann Bhaaye-1977’, ‘Darwaza-1978’, ‘Pal Do Pal Ka Saath-1978’, ‘Ahinsaa (1979)’, and ‘Door Waadiyon Mein Kaheen-1980’. She got married to Masood Ali (aka Pucky Ali) the eldest son of comedian Mehmood and they had two sons from this marriage. After her marriage she was seen less in films and years later in 1992 she was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her flat. While some claimed it was suicide there were stories alleging foul play, and the case remained unsolved. Masood Ali, who acted in few films, left the film industry as he got disinterested in film line and later shifted to Bangalore and is said to be still living there.

Coming back to the song under discussion, this song is sung by Manna Dey. Only the audio of this song is available. Naqsh Lyallpuri , the lyricist has penned some great verses here as was usual for him.

With today’s song all songs for this movie ‘Pal Do Pal Kaa Saath-1978’ are covered on the blog. I would request knowledgeable readers and our seniors who would have watched this movie to throw more light on this movie and its songs please.

Here is the list of all the song of this movie:-

Lyrics

Ik mandir mein do o

ik mandir mein ae do
deep jaley ae ae

deep jaley ae ae

daalee phoole
jaane kiskee aas phaley
ik mandir mein ae do
deep jaley ae ae
