Though the purpose of this post is to introduce and launch the posting of songs in a “new” film on the blog, this time the film is not from the Seventies, but it’s a film of the Fifties and I became aware of this film’s name when I was searching info for my earlier post where I shared a song from the 1979 film ‘Khaandan’.

So far, we have three films titled ‘Khandan’ featured on our blog. These are from 1942, 1965 & 1979. But there was one more film having the same title ‘Khandan’ in 1955. (it would be interesting to see how it is spelled in HFGK :) , and I feel for the benefit of all, on our blog at least, we should decide one spelling for all ‘Khandan’s to make the search easy for all.

When I checked our blog, I found that this film of 1955 is yet to make an entry on the blog. I search for its songs and links for almost all the seven songs of this film seem to be available there.

Now when you have a film to make a debut and that too from the Fifties and links of almost all of its songs also available there, it brings excitement and joy but with a dilemma of which song should we start first?

After lot of thinking :) I am introducing herewith this song sung by Mubarak Begam and Yashodhara (as per informaton available on myswar.com).

As per information available online this film was directed by M.L.Anand. Its cast includes Anwar, Manmohan Krishna, Murad, Lalita Pawar, Badri Prasad, Maruti Rao, and Shyama. Music of this film was composed by A.R.Qureshi.

As per myswar.com three lyricists have penned the songs for this film viz. Majrooh Sultanpuri, Tanveer Naqvi and Sarshar Sailani. Afzal Hussain, Asha Bhonsle, Bande Hussain, Madhubala Zaveri, Mohd Rafi, Mubarak Begam, S.Balbir, S.D.Batish, Yashodhara have given voices to the songs.

I would request Atul ji to kindly verify the details from HFGK and add/delete and/ or correct the details if needed.

I would also request knowledgeable readers to provide the correct words at few places where I have not been able to get them correctly.

With this ‘Khandan-1955’ making debut on the blog, I hope all the ‘Khandan’s are at one place together, and now its turn for the ‘legacy’ of the family ‘Khandani’ (1947) to make it to the blog, of which the songs seems to be unavailable online, as of now.

Let us now enjoy the today’s songs sung by Mubarak Begam & Yashodhara and composed by A.R.Qureshi. Lyrics of this song are by Sarshar Sailani.

I am looking for films having the same title, released in different years and I am searching for as yet undiscussed songs from the older among these same name movies.

As a result of this attempt, today we get introduced to a song from the film ‘Aadmi’ released in 1957.

There have been four films with the same title “Aadmi” that were released in 1939, 1957, 1968 and in 1993. All songs of “Aadmi”(1968) have been covered in the blog and one song from the 1939 film has been discussed as well.

‘Aadmi-1957’ was directed by Navnit Rai. It was a ‘Pictures Parade’ presentation, under R.S.Mistry production, Produced by Kumar Anand. It had Nasir Khan, Begum Para, Kamran, Yakub, Nirmal Kumar, Patanjal, Uma Dutt, Kammo, Arvind Kumar, Hira Sawant, Prem Sagar, Nalini and Kamal Mehra. It also had Sheikh, Bhudo Advani and Yakub as Guest Artists.

Story of this film was written by Navnit Rai who also directed this film. Music of this film was composed by Ramnath, while its lyrics were penned by Sartaj Rahmani.

The lyricist’s name piqued my interest to know more about him, but I could not find any information that gives details about the person and his works. I was hoping to get more details on him in the earlier posts on the blog, but none of them talked about him in detail. May be some of our seniors and knowledgeable readers can throw more light on this lyricist Sartaj Rahmani.

However from his filmography available on myswar.com I could summarize his contribution as below:

So far Sartaj Rahmani has penned lyrics for thirty six songs in nine Hindi films as follows:

Sno Film Year Total no of Songs in the film Lyrics by Sartaj Rahmani MD of the Film
1 Baghdad Ka Chor 1955 8 4 B.N.Bali
2 Chaar Paise 1955 6 6 B.D.Burman
3 Aawaara Shahzaadi 1956 7 3 Nashad, Jimmy
4 Husn Baano 1956 9 6 Ramlal-Heerapanna
5 Jallaad 1956 7 1 Naashaad
6 Noor e Yaman 1956 9 3 Bulo C Rani
7 Aadmi 1957 8 8 Ramnath
8 Jahaazi Lutera 1957 7 4 Bulo C Rani
9 Laalach 1960 5 1 S Kishan
Total number of songs by Sartaz Rahmani 36

So far three songs of Sartaj Rahmani have been posted on our blog and the posts are available here;

http://atulsongaday.me/2012/06/08/tere-liye-hai-pyaar-mera/

http://atulsongaday.me/2010/11/23/badnaam-na-ho-jaaun/

The music director Ramnath is making his debut in the blog with this song. From the information available on myswar.com he has given music in only two films ‘Aadmi-1957’ and ‘Meera-1947’ (only one song sharing credits with S.V.Venkatraman & Naresh Bhattacharya). I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on information about him.

Let us now enjoy this philosophical gem from the 1957 film ‘Aadmi’, and as this also happens to be the first song in the film, we start the journey to this film from the very beginning:) ( and wait for more interesting songs coming in future days :) )

From the video links available it can be assumed that this song is played in parts in the movie at different situations. However I have noted down the lyrics as per the two audio links available and given herewith (the uploader has wrongly uploaded the picture of the ‘1968-film-Aadmi’with the songs in the audio links).

In my pursuit of films with ‘similar titles’, I discovered a movie of 1949 called ‘Maaya Baazaar’. So far, as per information available online I could see that there are three films with the title ‘Maaya Baazaar’ and they were released in 1949, 1958 and 1971.

The 1958 ‘Maaya Baazaar’ has already made an entry on our blog and so far four songs from this have been posted on the blog.

As per information available ‘Maya Bazaar-1949’ was directed by Datta Dharmadhikari. It had Durga Khote, Shahu Modak, Baby Shakuntala, Balakram, Kusum Deshpande, Vasant Thengdi, Ganpatro Tambat, Chhotu, Usha Marathe and Yashwant.

Today’s song is sung by Lalita Dewoolkar and composed by Sudhir Phadke. Lyrics of this song are penned by Mukhram Sharma.

From the information, links of songs and comments thereof, it is clear that this film was also made in Marathi language. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Song-Tum rote raho aur yaad karo (Maaya Baazaar)(1949) Singer-Lalita Dewoolkar, Lyrics-Mukhram Sharma, MD-Sudhir Phadke

Lyrics

Agar thhaa unko jaana hi
Khushi se wo chale jaate
magar jaane se pehle
hamen ae ae ae ae
Kuchh to keh jaate

jab aur nahin to ye hi sahi
Rotey raho aur yaad karo
Tum rotey raho aur yaad karo

hansi honthon pe aayi thhi
nahin ham muskuraa paaye
nahin ham muskuraa paaye
Khushi aankhon mein chhaayi thhi
magar ham dekh na paaye
magar ham dekh na paaye
Chhalke aansoo aur keh ke girey
Rotey raho aur yaad karo
chhalke aansoo aur keh ke gire
Rotey raho aur yaad karo
Tum rotey raho aur yaad karo

Sisakney bhi nahin paate
Tadapne bhi nahin paate
Tadapne bhi nahin paate
Kahaani apne sukh dukh ki
Kisi se keh nahin paate
Murjhaayi kali man ki keh ke
Rote raho aur yaad karo
Murjhaayi kali man ki keh ke
Rotey raho aur yaad karo
Tum rotey raho aur yaad karo

Lagi aasha hamen unki ee
Lagi aasha hamen unki
Na jeete hain na marte hain
Wo aa jaayen
Wo aa jaayen
Unhi ki yaad karte hain
Ik baar wo aake keh jaayen
Rotey raho aur yaad karo
Ik baar wo aake keh jaayen
Rotey raho aur yaad karo
Tum rotey raho aur yaad karo

‘Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka-1975’ was directed by Devendra Goel for Goel Cine Corporation, Bombay. The censor board passed this film on 09.07.1975. Its music was composed by Ravi and the lyrics were penned by Sahir Ludhianvi.

It had Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Leena Chandavarkar, Deven Verma, David, Ramesh Deo (in friendly appearance), Achala Sachdev, Aasha Chandra, Sanjana, Birbal, Bramchari, Jagdish Raj, Hercules, Azad, Pehalwan, Khurshid Khan, Bannerjee, Mohan Sheri, Jankidas, Ratan Gaurang, Jery, Jugnu, Mulchand, Jilani, Bhanumati, Darshan, Kedar Sehgal and Jagdeo Singh.

As per HFGK the songs listings for this film is given as below;

S N Song Singer
1 Hamse poocho ke haqeeqat kya hai , tum jise apni mohabbat de do
2 Ek mahal ho sapnon ka Rafi, Lata
3 Zindagi guzaarne ko saathi ek chaahiye Mohd Rafi
4 Dil mein kisi ke pyaar ka jalta hua diya Lata Mangeshkar
5 Dekha hai zindagi ko kuchh itna qareeb se Kishore Kumar

(In HFGK the footnote mentions the names of Lata, Kishore, Rafi, and Kanchan as playback voices.)

Out of curiosity I watched the title and a part of this film to gather information for this post. Surprisingly the films’ titles do not mention the name of the Singers. Also it does not mention about the ‘male version’ of the song ‘dil mein kisi ke pyaar ka …’
However, Atul ji while posting the song at (sr no 1) above has rightly mentioned the singer’s names as Kishore Kumar and Kanchan.

When I had initially sent the lyrics for this song last year I had also added the clip of the song (poetry recited by Lata) ‘Gulon ka rang ho tum’ which I find in the list of filmography of Sahir Ludhianvi as mentioned in the book ‘Sahir Ludhianvi- The People’s Poet’ (by Akshay Manwani).

For this film the above book mentions the following songs of Sahir Ludhianvi;

S N Song Singer
1 Dekha hai zindagi ko Kishore Kumar
2 Dil mein kisi ke pyaar ka jalta huaa diya (female) Lata Mangeshkar
3 Dil mein kisi ke pyaar ka jalta huaa diya (male) Kishore Kumar
4 Ek mahal ho sapnon ka Mohd Rafi & Lata Mangeshkar
5 Gulon ka rang ho tum Lata Mangeshkar
6 Hamse poochho ke haqeeqat kya hai(snippet) Kishore Kumar
7 Paisa-Dushman mohabbat ka paisa Kishore Kumar
8 Zindagi guzaarne ko saathi ek chaahiye Mohd Rafi

Now after watching a part of this film I find that the earlier clipping of this song is incomplete, so I had requested my friend Ashish Tilak to arrange to upload the complete song which has now been uploaded.

Today is the birth anniversary of Dharmendra and Sharmila Tagore. On this occasion, here is this song from ‘Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka-1975’. It is sung by Lata and it is lip synced by Sharmila Tagore.

As per HFGK it had a total of five songs and one dance music. All songs are solo songs, one by Kishore Kumar, Two by Asha Bhonsle and two by Lata Mangeshkar (including one song with chorus).

Lyrics for this film were penned by Anand Bakshi and Music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal.

I vaguely remember to have watched this movie as a child and I have the image of ‘a cow standing on a railway line’ and the other thing is this song that must have stuck up my mind since then. So, after getting connected with this blog I had then sent the lyrics for this song to Atul ji exactly three years back on 08.12.2012 :) and waiting to see it on the blog since then … (may be it is the right time for this song now :) )

I would also request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Today 9th December is the birth anniversary of Shatrughan Sinha. On this occasion let us enjoy this song from “Gaai aur Gori”(1973).

Song-Gori o Gori prem karle (Gaai Aur Gori)(1973) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-Laxmikant Pyarelal

Visiting HFGK (Vol-V -1971-1980) that I have, glancing through its pages, and reading and concentrating on few, then searching the songs’ links, noting lyrics, and mailing it to our beloved Atul ji and Sudhir ji is mostly my daily routine whenever I am at my base station (now Nagpur).

Now, going through HFGK is like visiting a ‘treasure trove’ or I may compare it with visiting a historical museum /monument, which I always love, and it’s my habit to go through all small details available there, watching them, observing them, reading the information there with minute details unless my family members or friends accompanying me push forward :) on to next step.

Coming back to the daily routine I mentioned above, the ‘by-products’ of the routine are more interesting, like;
– Discovering of some hidden gems
– Discovering of the audio/video links on YT of the songs that are yet to be posted
– Finding songs that we never heard and not known
– Going through a ‘nostalgic trip down memory lane’
– Getting surprises when we find some familiar songs that we used to listen frequently in our growing years, but yet to be posted and discussed on the blog
– And conceiving of new posts

Now, recently one more ‘by-product’ has become a part of the routine i.e. adding the YT links where the audio/video have been terminated due to( ‘multiple third-party notifications of copyright infringement’ ) various reasons, which was initially there with the songs already posted on the blog. It is easier in cases where the other links are available but it is really very disappointing when other links of the same song are not available.
(For example I had shared this song ‘In ujley mehlon ke taley’ long back, and now its shared link has been de-activated, and other link is not available.)

So what should one do?

Here our Pradeep ji’s ‘Project-Yippee’ :) has a role to play.

How?

Pradeep ji has given us training to ‘convert’ mp4 into mp3s, and so taking a ‘hint’ from that I have now been finding mp3s of such obscure songs and converting them into mp4 audio links, through my good, generous, lovely  friend Ashish Tilak (he always takes out time from his busy schedule to fulfill my ‘farmaishes’ )

And given all this when one find a song which is being awaited for long, and if it is a song of Sahir Ludhianvi, then a person like me will immediately grab the opportunity to share it (and of course, now, taking a care to keep its mp3 in stock, because we never know when the YT link is going to be not available in future)

With huge thanks to the YT up loader for uploading this rare song, here we enjoy this one from the ‘1962 – Dilli Ka Dada’, sung by Mahendra Kapoor and Mukesh and composed by N.Datta.

Lyrics are by Sahir Ludhianvi, and as is his wont, he is taking a dig at the system in this song.

Lyrics

Ho ho ho
Ho ho ho ho

Dee dee dee
Doo doo doo
Laa laa laa laa laa

Aji ham Dilli ke daade hain
Arey daade kya pardaade hain
Buron ke haq mein tedhe hain
Bhalon ke haq mein saade hain ae ae
Ham Dilli ke daade hain
Daade kya pardaade hain
Buron ke haq mein tedhe hain
Bhalon ke haq mein saade hain ae ae
Ham Dilli ke daade hain

Daa daa da da daa daa
Doo doo doo
Doo doo doo oo doo

Shahar ki chaudi sadakon par ham
Seena taan ke chalte hain
Dhan-daulat waale bhadbhunje
Hamko dekh ke jalte hain

Aji unke aur iraade hain
Apne aur iraade hain
Arey ham Dilli ke daade hain
Daade kya pardaade hain
Buron ke haq mein tedhe hain
Bhalon ke haq mein saade hain ae
Ham Dilli ke daade hain
Daa daa da da daa daa
da daa daa
Doo doo doo
Doo doo doo oo doo

Jaama Masjid ki seedhhi par baith ke
Khichda khaate hain
Laal qile ke agle-pichhle
Sab qisse dohraate hain

Aji yoon lagta hai jaise ham
Laawaaris shahzaade hain
Arey ham Dilli ke daade hain
Daade kya pardaade hain
Buron ke haq mein tedhe hain
Bhalon ke haq mein saade hain ae
Ham Dilli ke daade hain

Do din apna band bajaa kar
Gayi hakumat goron ki
Lekin ab bhi dhauns hai baaki
Chor munaafaakhoron ki

Dekhein kab tak poore hon
Jo sarkaar ke waade hain
Arey ham Dilli ke daade hain
Daade kya pardaade hain

I always feel that ‘technological advances’ have immensely benefitted all music lovers, because they have made the vast treasure of the HFM accessible for us and this vast treasure is getting enriched day by day thanks to the contributions of HFM lovers.

The song under discussion is one such song. I came across it when searching for songs of some other film. Of the many websites available on net I often visit at least two sites regularly to find old films and their songs. One of these sites is myswar.com. On another website I find this song listed under a different movie name. Later I found this song mentioned under its original title “Hamaara Watan” (1956) also.

But before that, when I searched our blog, I was surprised to find that this beautiful song was yet to be posted.

I was aware of this song for several years as it is in my collection since 1987. This song is in the album ‘Vintage Favourites’- Hemant Kumar (where he sings his own compositions)’ brought out by HMV in 1986 and I had added it to my collection on 13.03.1987.
(There is one song posted on our blog from the 1949 ‘Ek thi Ladki’ sung by Lata-Rafi which also have similar words ‘ye shokh sitaare’)

As per information available on IMDB this film ‘Hamaara Watan-1956’ was directed by Jayant Desai and its star cast includes Bina Rai, Prem Nath, Agha and others.

As per the information given with the audio cassette the film was produced by NAVKALA NIKETAN. Music of this film was composed by Hemant Kumar, and as many as three lyricists penned the lyrics for this movie viz. Raja Mehdi Ali Khan, S.H.Bihari and Ravi.

The song under discussion today is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Hemant Kumar and its lyricist is Ravi.
Music is composed by Hemant Kumar.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie and its songs.

And, let us enjoy this beautiful song with debut of this movie on our blog! (Yes, this one also comes under ‘how come this song was not posted earlier’…)

Lyrics

Ye shokh sitaare karte hain ishaare
Aa baith ke do chaar ghadi pyaar karen
Ye raat jawaan hai rangeen samaa hai
Aise mein sanam pyaar ka ikraar karen

Leke ik rang naya aayi hai
Ulfat ki ghadi

Raat hai ban ke mere saamne
Dulhan si khadi
Kasam tumhaari jo
Ham pyaar se inkaar karen ae

Aa baith ke do chaar ghadi pyaar karen
Ye shokh sitaare karten hain ishaare
Aa baith ke do chaar ghadi pyaar karen
Ye raat jawaan hai
rangeen samaa hai
Aise mein sanam pyaar ka ikraar karen

Saaj e dil chhed ke ulfat ke taraane gaayen
Kya hi achchha ho jo
Din raat bade ho jaayen

Isi tarah se chaman pyaar ka gulzaar karen aen
Aa baith ke do chaar ghadi pyaar karen

Ye shokh sitaare
Hmm hmm hmm
Karten hain ishaare
Hmm hmm hmm
Aa baith ke do chaar ghadi pyaar karen
Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
Ye raat jawaan hai

Hmm hmm hmm
Rangeen samaa hai

Aise mein sanam pyaar ka ikraar karen

Rajesh Khanna – The Phenomenon – 1
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

1983.

A young boy of fifteen, who has just successfully passed out his SSC-Board exams, is keen on taking up higher studies further. He is uncertain of the future, as the subjects he like and the subjects his family & friend circle want him to study are extremely opposite. Finally he lands with an admission in 11th with PMC stream and additional vocational subjects.

Now, as usual in our middle class society, and given the age this boy is also in love with Hindi films and dreaming about the future.

But slowly there was some passion, some madness growing in his watching of the Hindi films and falling in love with HFM. This boy was getting inclined to the movies of an actor who was not of his time, but an actor, who by that time was taken over by an ‘angry young man’ in the industry.  However, few of his films appeared in quick succession at the same time i.e. in 1983 and this actor was in news again.

This boy was now getting more and more involved with his favorite actor’s mannerisms, style, his acting, his sensible matured performances, his romance and his song sequences. He liked the various characters this actor played in the movies and particularly the ‘death scenes’ in his films where the actor dies in his own ‘inimitable style’.

With every new film he watches of this actor the ‘hysteria’ continued to grow on and on …

*****
The actor mentioned in above story is none other than the Indian Cinema’s first Superstar – Rajesh Khanna.

And the boy?

*****
Fast forward to 2015. The boy is now a 47 years old person and yours very sincerely. As he writes this post, he is looking back over those years, discovering how and where it actually started – the ‘magic’ of Rajesh Khanna and his films. Recollecting all that I had gone through in those years, I wish to analyze it all now. How it happened? What thinking process I was going over then? etc.

As I try to get to the point in time when exactly it must have started, I can surely say that ‘Mehbooba’ (1976) and ‘Mere Jeewan Saathi’ (1972) are the two prominent films that touched me the most and molded the mind of a young boy in his early teens. I got to watch these films in our colony during the weekly screening of films in the ‘Recreation Club’ for the employees. Given the stage of adolescence, one tends to be attracted to the world outside and the friends in society. And,very importantly, one is eager to fall in love with someone – someone special. A time where the gap between a world of ‘dreams’ and the world of ‘reality’ is only a few years apart. But when one is in love, nothing seems to be impossible. And the mind is always looking for an altogether different ‘world’.

The other few movies, starring Rajesh Khanna that I remember to have watched before 1983 were ‘Bandish'(1969), ‘The Train’ (1970), ‘Tyaag’ (1976), ‘Chakravyuha'(1978),  ‘Thodi Si Bewafai’ (1980), and ‘Dhanwan’ (1981). Besides, there are few more movies which remain in my memory. These I must have watched  with some family members. The films are ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’ (1971), ‘Anuraag’ (1972), ‘Roti’ (1974) and ‘Aap Ki Kasam’ (1974). These are nostalgic films for me and their song brings back sweet memories.

I divide my watching of Rajesh Khanna films into three phases – as ‘as a child’, ‘in early teens’ and the others ‘in late teens and further’. In this series which takes off today I will be sharing ‘my times with Rajesh Khanna films’ and some songs from his films, remembering the late Superstar on his 74th birth anniversary (29th December).

For this occasion I have selected this song from the 1976 film ‘Mehbooba’ where Rajesh Khanna is seen doing a stage performance and the films’ titles also rolling …

The lyrics for this song are by Anand Bakshi. Music is composed by RD Burman. Perfectly matching the combination, it is sung by Kishore Kumar for the film ‘Mehbooba’ directed by Shakti Samanta.

A special song for this special occasion…

Enjoy the ‘style and substance of – the phenomenon- Rajesh Khanna’!!

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
——————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 29 # Qawwalis – 1#
——————————————

Wishing all a very happy 2016!!

A year has passed!!

Many of us must be thinking that one year of our life has been reduced. It has been a trend offlate where instead of celebrating the occasion, some people regard it as loss of one year from one’s life and they take a dim view of all the new year celebrations .

I wonder, instead of regretting, why we cannot savor the time spent or the years that we have lived so far and rejuvenate ourselves to contribute to our society, our surroundings, our environment and utilize the experience thus gained for the betterment of humanity.

Coming back to today’s post, and taking a different look on the ‘passing of a year’, I would not be surprised if many others want some years or few years to come and pass on rapidly. Because with a year gone, while some may have grown older by a year, some may be growing younger.

Younger! How?

Some may be attaining their ‘youth’ in this new year, some promising youngsters may be dreaming about their future plans, some may be attaining adulthood and some may have crossed their age of getting married , and some may be planning to get married during this year !!

For those, who are in a hurry to get married and are ready to go through all the ‘hard-ships’ ? (which come in disguise of some colorful dreams) of a married life by losing their singleton or maidenhood, here is a song to listen to. May be this song may make them reconsider their decision. :)

This song is one of the popular Qawwalis of the 1970’s.

***

Discussion of HFM of Seventies is incomplete without the discussion of Qawwalis of that decade of 1971-1980. We have some memorable Qawwalis from this period and many of these are already posted on the blog. I too have prepared posts to share few qawwalis, but when I noted that this song, which is under discussion today, is yet to be discussed on the blog, I was surprised and shocked.

So, keeping aside the main post on qawwalis, I am sharing this one first.

This is from the ‘1976- Film – Noor-E-Ilaahi’.

‘Noor – E-Ilaahi-1976’ was directed by Sheikh Nisar. It was a ‘Bundelkhand films, Bombay’ presentation. It had Sona, Jatin, N.A.Ansari, Nazeer Hussain, Chandrashekhar, Veena, Chand Usmani, Aparna Choudhary, Smita, Lata Arora,Niranjan Mathur, Master Babbu, Baby Neelofar, Champak, Hari Shukla, Jilani, Maqbool, R.S.Chopra, Gani, Uma Dutt, and in special appearance Yusuf Azad, Rasheeda Khatoon, Jagdeep and Mirza M.Baig. Prayag Raj, K.B.Pathak, Mohan Choti, and Kadar Khan make a friendly appearance in this movie.

This film had six songs penned by Jafar Gorakhpuri, Qaiser-Ul-Jafri, Qamar ‘Shaad’, Ram Bharadwaj, and one lyrics is credited to Bahadur Shah ‘Jafar’ for his famous ‘na kisi ki aankh ka noor hoon’.

Music of this film was composed by Babloo-Dheeraj.

Today’s song, a popular ‘qawwali’ of that time is sung by Yusuf Azad and Rasheeda Khatoon, and going by the credits of this film I can guess that they have also performed it on the screen.

Lyrics of this song are by Jafar Gorakhpuri.

I am aware of this song because it was very popular during my childhood. I have not watched this film and can’t say much about it. I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

***
Two of our team members Peevesie’s Mom ji and Pradeep ji are celebrating their birth anniversaries today and I take this opportunity to wish both of them very happy birthday, and wishh them healthy, peaceful and all musical life ahead.
(I am sure after getting connected to this blog they have grown younger and continue to be so further ? )

***

Resolutions….?? ?
Yes, when we talk of ‘new year’, every individual have some resolutions or promises to keep.
After connecting to this blog mine are only those that are related with future posts or songs.
So, from my side this year is dedicated to ‘Qawwalis’ (a special feature, that will be covered under the # The Decade of Seventies’-‘Bhoole Bisre Geet’ #), then I already have a series on ‘Rajesh Khanna’ songs, and few other posts (some of them already delayed due to other priorities )

So, looking forward a musical year full of ‘nostalgia’ and ‘bringing back memories’!!

Let us enjoy the today’s song now.
Note : (The available link is sadly not complete and the end is missing. This is nevertheless the longest link available for this song. I would request our readers to point it in case a longer link of this song is available)

Badi beautiful thhi
Jawaani ki raatein
Haseenon se hoti thhin
Rangeen baatein
Mujhe yaad hai aaj tak
Wo zamaana
Haseenon ke jamghat mein
Picnic manaana
magar ban gayi jab se tu meri dulhan
meri zindagi ban gayi ek Uljhan
jo shaadi huyi to baje mere baarah
meri har khushi
ho gayi nau do gyaarah
Teri booddhi maa ne kabhi mujhko Daantaa
Kabhi ban gaya tera baap dil mein Kaanta
Kabhi jaan ko aa gaye tere bhaai
Kabhi teri behnon ne ki haathaa-paayi
Aur us par sitam
Har baras ek bachchaa
Chalo ab mujh hi ko chabaa jaao kachchaa
Hua har mazaa kirkiraa aashiqui ka
Samajh lo janaaza uthhaa zindagi ka
Pareshaan ho tum
aur main hakkaa-bakkaa
Sitaare thhe ham tum
Aji Badaa lutf thha
jab kunwaare thhe ham tum
Suno ji
Badaa lutf thha
Jab kunwaare thhe ham tum
suno ji
Badaa lutf thha jab
ae kunware thhe ham tum
Suno ji
badaa lutf thha jab

mere aage peecchhe teheltey thhe kitney
Jagaati thhi jaadu
Uthhati thi fitne
na behnon se darnaa aa
na bhaiyya se darnaa aa
kayi baar din bhar mein
ban’na sanwarnaa
magar tum ne kuchh
Aisa chakkar chalaaya
mohabbat ke phande mein
mujhko phansaaya
kabhi naaz Father Mother ka uthhaaya
kabhi bhaai behnon ko maskaa lagaaya
garaz tumse dhokha badaa kha gayi main
tumhaari dulhan ban ke pachhtaa gayi main
jo kehti hoon main
laa do
Honthon ki laali
to kehte ho phauran
ke hai jeb khaali
Jo kehti hoon main
laa do
paajeb o kangan
To kehte ho maanjho abhi aur bartan
Padi kis muye ke
main palle khudaaya
koyi dil ka armaan nikalne na paaya

Thhe khush jab na ulfat ke
Maare thhe ham tum
Badaa aa lutf thha jab
ae kunwaare thhe ham tum
suno ji
badaa aa lutf thha jab
ae kunwaare thhe ham tum
suno ji

Badaa lutf thha jab
Ae kunware thhe ham tum
Suno ji
Badaa lutf thha jab

Ye ghar ke masaayil
Ye bachchon ki jhanjhat
aur us par wo din raat ki
tumse khhatpat
kabhi thhak thakaa kar
Jo daftar se aana
Tumhaare hi order pe
Bachche khilaana
Tumhaara ye kehna
Nahin ghar mein aataa
Meri iltijaa
Mat pakaao paraathha
tumhaara ye kehna
ke munni ke abbaa
huaa khatm ghar mein
jo thhaa
ghee ka dibbaa
Ho shaitaan ki tum beti
Bhooton ki khaalaa
Mere ghar ka tumne ae
nikaala deewaala
meri tumne fashion se lutiyaa dubo di
bade ho ke bachchon ne bhi
qabr khodi
jo aaye bahu aur daamaad tauba
ghazab dhhaa gayi unki aulaad tauba
mere peechhe padte hain
wo haath dho kar
banaaya hai poton nawaason ne Joker
na tum naani banti
na main Banta naana
na ghar banta mere liye
jail khaanaa aa
jo shaadi na hoti
to kuchh bhi na hota
na tum mujhko roti
na main tum ko rota
huyi bhool hamse
jo shaadi rachaayi
Ke khud zindagi apni
kadwee banaayi
mohabbat ke meethhe
Chhuaare thhe ham tum
ae
ae Badaa lutf thha
jab kunwaare thhe ham tum
suno ji
badaa lutf thha
jab kunware thhe ham tum
suno ji
badaa lutf thha jab
ae kunware thhe ham tum
suno ji
badaa lutf thha jab

tumhen ghar ka jhanjhat jo
Lagta hai bhaari
to ban jaate shauhar ke badle
madaari
jo shauhar baney ho to
nakhre bhi jhelo
kahaa kisne thha
pyaar ka khel khelo
jo doolhaa bane ho to phir
phoonko choolhaa
jhulaao nawaason ka
poton ka jhoola
mila aisa kanjoos shauhar
ke tauba aa
yoon phoota hai mera mukkaddar
ke tauba
tumhaare dukhon ne
ye haalat Bana di ee
Arrey kaash main tumse
Karti na shaadi
Kabhi yoon na ham dono
Barbaad hotey ae
Main aazaad hoti
Tum aazaad hote ae
Kahaan is qadar be-sahaare thhe Ham tum
Aji Badaa lutf thha
Jab ae kunware thhe ham tum
Suno ji
Badaa lutf thha jab
Ae kunwaare thhe ham tum
Suno ji

Badaa lutf thha jab
Ae kunnware thhe ham tum
Suno ji
Badaa lutf thha jab

Ye jeewan ….
Ye shaadi ka engine
Ye do pal ka sukh
Zindagi bhar ki uljhan

Mohabbat gayi hamko rassi mein kas kar
Huye khaaq ham ghar ke lafdon mein padkar

….

‘Udhaar Ka Sindoor-1976’ was a Prasad Productions (P) Ltd, Bombay presentation. It was produced by L.V.Prasad and directed by Chander Vohra. Its cast includes Asha Parekh, Jeetendra, Reena Roy, Om Shivpuri, Asrani, Dheeraj Kumar, Prema Narayan, Urmila Bhatt, Sayten Kappu, Manmohan Krishna, Manju Bansal, Pental, Dhumal, Raj Verma, Ashalata, Bhatnagar, Vikas Anand, Kanwar, Master Apurva, Dhanna, Renu, Jayshree T. It also had Rita Bhaduri and Kamal Kapoor in special appearance.

Its music was composed by Rajesh Roshan. It had five songs in it (including one in three parts, as per HFGK) that were penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri. Anuradha (must be Anuradha Paudwal, I think), Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh gave their voices to these songs.

This film was passed by censor board on 15.10.1976. Story of this film was written by A.Pundarikakshayyay, Screenplay was by L.V.Prasad and Dialogues were by Pt.Anand Kumar.

Here is this first song from the film to appear on the blog which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mukesh and it is lip synced by Reena Roy and Jeetendra respectively on screen. The song happens as a ‘stage performance’ song at a ‘college function’ and is also the first song in the movie.

This song is one of those ‘nostalgic’ songs for me, and I do not know whether it is its tune or singing (or may be the picturisation of this song, however I do not remember the movie, but I remember the film’s name) that got stuck in my mind ever since I watched this film in the late seventies or early eighties.

Today 7th January is the birthday of the beautiful Reena Roy!

Wishing her a very happy birthday today and wishing her a healthy and peaceful life in the future. On this occasion let us enjoy this lovely song ….

Song-Pari re tu kahaan ki pari (Udhaar Ka Sindoor)(1976) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-Rajesh Roshan

Lyrics

Jannat se aayi piya main tujhe lene
Shukriya ji yahaan main hoon maze mein
Duniya hamaari hai sitaaron ki duniya aa
Meri bhi duniya bahaaron ki duniya
Raani gagan ki kehti hai aaja
Main bhi hoon apni
Dharti ka Raaja

Aye naadaan hai tu kya jaane
Aa mere sang deewaane
Dikhlaaoon apna jahaan

Pari re tu kahaan ki pari
Dharti pe aayi kaise ae

Kaise kahoon lagan teri ee
Yahaan mujhe laayi kaise
Ke jaane jaan
Bandhi chali aayi ee jaise

O o o o o o o o
Aa aa aa aa aa aa aa aa
O o o o o o o o

Mere jahaan mein
Heere moti ke mahal hain
Mere jahaan mein bhi to
Yaaron ke dil hain

Masti mein doobi hawaa
Mere chaman mein
Mehnat ki khushboo
Yahaan ki pawan mein
Apni zameen hai jannat hamaari

Thukraaon na yoon chaahat hamaari
Na kar seena taani
Sun o pariyon ki raani
Tu kahaan aur main
Kahaan aa haan aa aa

Kaise kahoon lagan teri ee
Yahaan mujhe laayi kaise
Pari re tu kahaan ki pari ee
Dharti pe aayi kaise
Ke bolo ji
chhabi bikhraayee ee ee kaise

‘Daakiyaa daak laaya!! Daakiyaa daak laaya!!’

No, I was not that much aware of this song in my childhood when I was a school going child, but I remember the characteristic ringing of the ‘cycle bell’ which signalled the arrival of the ‘Postman’ on our door steps.

I also cannot forget the fact that there was a poem on ‘The Postman’ in our Hindi text book, (though I do not exactly remember in which class) which described how in spite of lot of difficulties the Postman performs his duty and delivers our letters to us. We have to appreciate the contribution of the humble postman in bringing messages to people located at remote and inaccessible places that were underdeveloped and cut off from other places.

Among the many institutions we have in our society, I have some special fondness for Railways, Railway Stations, State Bus services (few states), Post offices, Postman etc.

I do not know why but I am always excited to visit Railway Stations, travel by train, travel by ST Bus (specially in Rajasthan, Maharashtra and now Gujarat). That gives me a strange satisfaction and happiness, and a ‘nostalgic‘ feeling too.

Likewise I have this fascination for the Post Office or Postal Department.

In my childhood I was very fond of the ‘postal stationery’, sending requests for list of publications, receiving various booklets and other things through posts. I also took up the hobby of collection of stamps once upon a time, though not too seriously and it got discontinued with time.

I like receiving various postages like book-post and once I had sent my requests for books to ‘Amar Chitra Katha’ (I think I had ordered five books) without the knowledge of my parents. When the books finally arrived through VPP, my parents paid up the money to receive the unexpected parcel and I had to face the wrath of my father for doing such ‘kalaakari’ without their permission.

As I was fond of books, I slowly became addicted to the idea of receiving of books and list of various publications through post. I am still fascinated with the fragrance of the packages of the various color craft paper that arrives in these posts.

When I grew up and took a job I had this experience of telex, telegrams, Registered Letters, Registry with acknowledgement, booking trunk calls (also some special calls, I am forgetting it now) wherein one had to wait patiently for a long time after booking the call and to talk with the phone person.

Then there was this sealing of the parcel with cloth packing by ‘laakh’, for sending the parcels.

There were strange moments too. Like, in one of my previous organizations, our accounts department used to send reminders for fortnightly site accounts via telegram. Now sometime the telegram man would come (looking grim and purposeful as was their wont) at late evening hours, say at 10-11 at night, and when you see a telegram person at your door step there are always negative apprehensions about the news. Because, in general, the ‘telegram’ was considered a harbinger of bad news.

When I joined my studies for graduation it was all through correspondence and as I recollect it now, I can only appreciate the P&T department, because none of my exam requests were missed, at no time my hall-ticket got delayed, none of the assignments gets misplaced or lost and all my result-cards and all of my communication was properly delivered and received by me too.

At one point when I do not receive an acknowledgement for a registered letter sent by me with a DD subscribing for a journal, I just put a request to the nearest main post office I was staying at Kota (it was in ‘Dhan Mandi’ or ‘New Grain Mandi’), and OMG !! After few days I got this detailed letter giving me the tracking of the said registered letter and the details of its delivery to the destination office.

I salute the Post & Telegraph department of India.

At the same time I had also tried to know how the Pin-code for various places are derived and how the Country is divided in various zones for this purpose.

I got married in 1994, and at that time though the various Phone services were started (namely STD) up we do not have a land line connection at our home neither cell phones.

As I was elder among my brothers I thought my wife should also stay with my parents and do their ‘sewa’. So, for the first two or three years she was alternatively staying with me and my parents. The main source of communication beetween us during that phase of our lives was through letters and I cannot forget how thrilling and exciting it was, waiting for the letters, keeping in touch with the Postman, and how most of the times the intuition of arriving of letters at the Post Office worked well and I used to visit the Post Office and check for my ‘mails’ after the daily sorting time was over. There used to be separate boxes in the big wooden ‘almirah’ at the Post offices, where they would keep the mails of different areas of the city. Those days cannot be forgotten.

And to remember and cherish those lovely days here is a lovely song from the 1981 film ‘Sharda’, where in the beautiful Rameshwari is lip syncing for Lata’s voice in this song. The song is composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal and the lyrics are by Anand Bakshi.

6 january 2016 was the birthday of Rameshwari. Wishing her a very happy birthday and a long healthy and peaceful life ahead…

Recently in October (October 13th if I remember correctly) when the ‘Philately Day’ was being celebrated, there was a special programme on ‘Vividh Bharati’ which begin with this song. So I was waiting with bated breath to see if anyone was going to pick up this song for discussion. Fortunately this song was not taken up by anyone and that gave me the opportunity to discuss this song on this occasion.

Ye bhi kuchh kam nahin
Dil ke badle
Lifaafa mila aa aa

‘Chimani Ka Dhuaan-1973’ was directed by Prabhat Mukherjee for Kamayani Pictures, Calcutta. It had Motilal, Balraj Sahani, Helen, Achla Sachdev, Dhumal, Sabita Chatterjee, Madhukar, Baby Madhu, Harsh, Sharminder, Mohan Ojha and Shefali.

R.S.Preetam was the lyricist of this movie, while the music was composed by Robin Chatterjee.

I came to know about this film’s name in June’2014, on the occasion of ‘environment day’, for which I try to connect ‘Hindi films’ names related with nature, pollution, ecology, environment and environment protection for a poem.

It seems that ‘Chimani Ka Dhuaan-1973’ must be an obscure movie of its time, as very little information of this movie is available in the domain.

As per HFGK this movie was passed by Censor on 31.12.1973. HFGK mentions that as per the films promotional booklet it is clear that the film was earlier named as ‘Praayschit’.

This film had a total of seven songs (as per HFGK) and Aarti Mukherjee, Mahendra Kapoor, Pranab Patnaik, Sandhya Mukherjee, Shipra Bose and Suman Kalyanpur gave their voices to these songs.

I would request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this movie and its songs.

Today we enjoy this song sung by Sandhya Mukherjee from this film which is making an entry on the blog with this song.

Song-Beet jaayegi umariya(Chimni Ka Dhuaan)(1973) Singer-Sandhya Mukherji, Lyrics-R S Preetam, MD-Robin Chatterji

Lyrics

Beet jaayegi umariya
Ye phir na milegi
Beet jaayegi umariya
Ye phir na milegi
Lagaa lo honthon se jigar ki
Peer bujhegi
Lagaa lo hothon se jigar ki
Peer bujhegi
Haaye phir na milegi
Beet jaayegi umariya
Ye phir na milegi
Haaye phir na milegi

Khushi ka naam zindagi
Bhulaa nahin dena aa
Khushi ka naam zindagi
Bhulaa nahin dena
Ro ro ke aansuon se
Jalaa nahin dena
Ro ro ke aansuon se

Rooth jaayegi gagariya
Ye phir na bharegi
Rooth jaayegi gagariya
Ye phir na bharegi
Ye phir na milegi
Ye phir na milegi
Beet jaayegi umariya
Ye phir na milegi ee
Phir na milegi

Ye jagmagaati ee raushni
Saji huyi jawaaniyaan

I have neither watched this film ‘Khel Khilaadi Ka-1977’ nor was I familiar with any of the songs of this film. I remember the film’s name because I know it was from Arjun Hingorani the famous director who repeatedly cast Dharmendra in his films and the titles of his films mostly started with the letter ‘K’.

Now, after going through the filmography of Arjun Hingorani and his ‘K’ series films, I have only watched Kab? Kyun? Aur Kahaan? in theatre in my childhood with my uncle (and I remember I was very much scared of Pran coming on screen every time, and I would clutch my uncle’s hand every time Pran appeared on screen.).

I later watched some parts of ‘Kahaani Kismat Ki’ on TV. But its songs viz. ‘raftaa raftaa’ figures in my list of ‘songs that bring back memories’. And I got a chance to share the wonderful ‘title song’ of this film, sung by Mukesh, and which has been posted here, almost two years back.

Few days back when I was searching for Dharmendra songs for his birth anniversary I come across this film ‘Khel Khilaadi Ka-1977’ and I checked for its songs. From the list I can recall having heard the song ‘ek babloo poochhe babli se’. I had not heard the other songs of this movie.

But when I find this song ‘pyaar ka bandhan …’ and listen to it, I recall having heard this one before but not with that much attention.

On searching for this song on YT I find that only the ‘second part’ of this song was available, while as per HFGK this song was in three parts. Fortunately the audio of the other two parts were available and as usual I resort to my good friend Ashish Tilak for converting the mp3 to mp4 and it’s uploading on YT, for sharing and posting here, and as usual, he responded promptly to my request.

So here is this ‘theme’ song from ‘Khel Khilaadi Ka-1977’. This is a typical theme song that one got to listen to in movies of those era that had ‘lost and found’ formula as their underlying theme.

The film was produced under the banner of ‘Kapleshwar Films, Bombay’ and was directed by Arjun Hingorani. The cast of ‘Khel Khilaadi Ka’1977’ had Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Dev Kumar, Narendra Nath, Junior Mehmood, Johny Walker, Komila Virk, Sujata, Bharat Bhushan, Shyama, Sajjan, Ravi, Vijay, Hiralal, Jankidas, Ranveer Raj, Anand Bihari, Hari Shivdasani, Birbal, Darshan Arora, Bhagwan, Sunder, Rajan Haksar, C.S.Dubey, Deepak, Pardesi, Hangama, Maruti, Polsan and Arjun Hingorani. It also had few new debutants (new discoveries) viz. Dhruv, Shakti Kapoor, Phansok, Shaili, Krushma, Ashima, Karuna, Master Suhail – a new discovery, and Padmini Kapila and Helen in Special Appearance. Upendra Trivedi and Aashu make a friendly appearance in this movie.

An interesting review of this movie is available on Greta Memsaab’s blog .

This film had total seven songs (including today’s song consisting of three parts) written by Rajendra Krishna and composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

‘Khel Khilaadi Ka-1977’ is making its debut in the blog with this song sung by Mukesh ji and Lata Mangeshkar. Lyrics are by Rajendra Krishna and music is composed by Kalyanji-Anandji.

RAFI+ Chorus

Lyrics

Hamaara Bharat
Hamaari janani
Hamaari dharti
Hamaara desh
Kaise ho maa tere sookhe nain
Kaise ho maa tere rookhhe kesh
Kaise ho maa tera dhool ka aasan
Kaise ho maa tera malin vesh
Tees koti santaan jiski
Milke pukaare hamaara desh
Kaisa hai dukh kaisi hai chinta
Kaisi hai lajjaa
Kaisa hai klesh
Tees koti ek swar mein
Milke pukaare hamaara desh
Hamaara desh
Hamaara desh

Jaagi yahin thhi Buddh ki aatmaa
Kholne ko mukti dwaar
Chhaaya hua hai aadhe jagat par
Aaj bhi unki bhakti ka saaz
Tere Ashok ne shok mitaaya
Yash failaya desh videsh
Uski nahin thhi maata tu janani
Uska nahin thha maataa ye desh
Kaisa hai dukh kaisi hai chinta
Kaisi hai lajjaa kaisa hai klesh
Tees koti ek swar mein
Milke pukaare hamaara desh
Hamaara desh
Hamaara desh

Goonji yahin thhi manjeeron mein
Tere nimaayi ki manjul taan
Nyaay vidhaan diya Raghuvar ne
Gaaye thhe Chandi Das ne gaan
Tere Pratap ne sir naa jhukaaya
Kya hai nahin uska dhanya desh
Dhanya hai maata apni nason mein
Agar hai unka rakt shesh
Kaisa hai dukh kaisi hai chinta
Kaisi hai lajjaa kaisa hai klesh
Tees koti ek swar mein
Milke pukaare hamaara desh
Hamaara desh
Hamaara desh

Jo kahin maa tere sundar mukh par
Chhaayega dukh ka andhera ghor
Hat jaayenge kaale baadal
Jaag uthhegi aasha ki bhor
Ham ko mitaani maa teri kaalikh
Pranon se pyaara hamko swadesh
Devi se paawan pooja se nirmal
Swarg se sundar hamaara desh
Kaisa hai dukh kaisi hai chinta
Kaisi hai lajjaa kaisa hai klesh
Tees koti ek swar mein
Milke pukaare hamaara desh
Hamaara desh
Hamaara desh
Hamaara desh

# Desh ki mitti ki khushboo # 2
———————————–

In one of my earlier posts I had described how my working life took off and how I got a chance to be associated with a ‘New Delhi’ based company. One of the most important considerations that motivated me to join this company was that it gave me the opportunity to get postings in different parts of our ‘great country’ .

At that time the thing uppermost in my mind was that I would get to see Delhi and the other places of our great country. It did happen and I got a chance to visit New Delhi many times thereafter, for official work (as the Head Office of the company was at New Delhi- Nehru Place), and also to travel across different parts of the country and to stay in states like Rajasthan, U.P., Haryana, and further in the state of Gujarat.

All the tourist destinations and other historically important places were the main attraction for me then and that continues to be the case for me even today, because I love to travel, observe the rich historical and cultural heritage of our country, observe people of diverse areas speaking different dialects and following different customs and traditions.

When I was in school, History, Geography and Civics were my favorite subjects (and I always fared well in them :) at all levels)

My first ‘out of Maharashtra’ posting was at the company work site at Kota, Rajasthan; I stayed there for a period of almost eight years (More on this ‘first assignment-Rajasthan, in another post, which has been skipped and may come in future on the blog).

For this today’s post we jump on to my ‘second out of State posting’ which was at Phulpur near Allahabad.

I landed at Phulpur-Allahabad on 15th August 1996 and stayed there till Sep’1998 till the completion of the Project there.

Due to my interest in GK I was aware that this was the constituency of our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

I keep visiting Allahabad-Phulpur for some work after the completion of the project and the last such visit was in 2001 when I visited with my wife and daughters and we took a ‘holy-bath’ there as the ‘Kumbh-Mela’ was held then.

Well, when I reached Phulpur, initially, our staying arrangements were in the village Phulpur, then we shifted to the township near the plant and finally when the project was completed we moved to Jhunsi near Allahabad, from where I used to commute daily for the final closure and winding up activities there.

I remember that our first outing /visit in the city were to the ‘Chowk’ area, the main market place in the city of Allahabad.
Thereafter we visited the ‘triveni-sangam’, took a ‘holy-dip’ there, and visited the nearby temples. After that as and when time permitted and on festive occasions we visited these places again, especially when my parents came there. Then we also paid a visit to Varanasi and Sarnath.

I always consider myself blessed to have got such opportunities to work and travel around different places and staying there, because due to this my parents also got to visit these places which otherwise would not have been possible for them.

For me the ‘triveni sangam’ and taking a holy dip into it was a great experience but simultaneously there were lot of incidents which compel me to think, how we the people of this great land are exploiting the society and also damaging our natural resources by pollution and destroying them. Peoples visiting there from different parts of the country for rituals of their near and dear ones are exploited too.
And while I have some very fond memories of my stay there, there were some bitter incidents too. But, after almost 20 yrs now, when I looked back at them, they seem to be ‘part and parcel’ of life and learning and experience that we get in our life.

During this period my wife and elder daughter stayed with me and kept shifting between Phulpur and Parli Vaijnath where my parents were staying (my second daughter was born during this period in 1997).

So, for the time when I was a forced bachelor and the work was reduced, I and my friends from other companies working there used to visit the ‘Coffee-house’ in the Civil lines area in Allahabad-mostly on holidays, and had snacks and tea/coffee there.

It was during this period that I came to know more about the importance of ‘some particular days’ and taking a ‘holy dip’ on those days in the river ‘Ganga’ or at the ‘triveni-sangam ‘at Prayag (near modern day Allahabad, there are separate railway stations as ‘Prayag’ and ‘Prayag Ghat’ – which is at the bank of river Ganga)

There I came to know about the ‘Magh-Mela’ held every year, ‘Kalpwaas’ and ‘Kalpwaasis’ (pilgrims camping there at the ‘sangam-tat’) and the importance of the ‘maagh poornima’ and ‘mauni amavsya’.

The ‘magh-mela’ starts every year on ‘Makar Sankranti’ and ends with ‘Magh Purnima’; (though with low importance it continues till ‘Maha Shivratri’)

People used to rush to the ‘river banks’ on these days and one could see thousands of people taking ‘holy dip’ on these days.
This year these auspicious days fall on Makar Sankranti (15.01.16), Paush Purnima (23.01.16), and Mauni Amavasya – Monday, 8 February 2016, Vasant Panchami- Friday, 12 February 2016, and Magha Purnima- Monday, 22 February 2016.
(The ‘Magh Mela’ is, however, not confined to the month of ‘Magh’ (mid January-mid Feb of the ‘Gregorian’ calendar) only and the important bathing days are spread over a period of 45 days. It is also known as a ‘mini-kumbh’ mela.

(When I moved to Bareilly from Phulpur-Allahabad there was this river ‘Ram –Ganga’ and I have seen peoples travelling in packed train and sitting on the top of the train bogies to rush to the river for the holy bath.)

One of the auspicious days is ‘mauni amavsya’, and one could see more crowds on this day to take a ‘holy bath’ at the ‘triveni sangam’. This year it is on 8th February 2016 viz today.

‘Mauni amavsya’ or a ‘no-moon day’ of ‘Magh’ month is also observed as ‘day of silence’ in Hindu traditions. People take a ‘sacred bath’ in the ‘triveni sangam’ at ‘Prayag’ and worship Lord Vishnu as a part of ‘purifying act’.

But, why are we discussing it here on the blog? … Yes, there is a reason for that because we do have a song which talks about holy rivers – Ganga, Yamuna and the invisible river Saraswati and their ‘triveni-sangam’ and taking a ‘holy-dip’ in the ‘sangam’ on ‘Mauni Amavysya’. And what a wonderful song it is, and who else than Rafi Saab could have sung it giving it a touch of ‘purity and divinity’..
So here is this song from the ‘1978’ film ‘Sampoorna Sant Darshanam’.

‘Sampoorna Sant Darshanam-1978’ was directed by Adarsh.

It was a Shree Adarsh Arts, Bombay presentation. It had Jaimala, Ramesh Tiwari, Arpana Choudhary, Vrinda, Jagdeep, Heena Kausar, Chandrashekhar, Nazeer Hussain, C.S.Dubey, Helen, Shirish Kumar, Kanchan Mattu, Dev Sharma, Anup Jalota, Anand Bihari, Chandan Singh, Dev Gupta, Prabha, Gopal Vyas, Gulshan, Himmat Joshi, Hemant Kumar, Nazir Kashmiri and Majeet Kumar.

As mentioned in HFGK, this film had total ten songs composed by Jeetu Tapan. Lyrics of all the songs are by Vishweshwar Sharma.
Mohd Rafi, Anup Jalota, Anuradha, Arun Ingle, Puroshottam Jalota, Bramhe and Sandhya Rao gave their voices to these songs.

Thanks to the YT up loaders for uploading this song, let us listen to this song now …

“Mere paas Maa hai …”

“Of all the rights of women, the greatest is to be a mother’ so today on the international day of women, we pay our tributes to women and the ‘mother’ in them.

“Swami Tinhi Jagaacha Aai vina Bhikaari” …

Goes the lines are from a poem in ‘Marathi’, it means that… Even the lord of all the ‘three worlds’ is a beggar without a Mother…

Yes, every one of us understands the value of this word ‘mother’ and the value of her unconditional love she showers on us. How she cares for her child, how she serves a child for his whole life till she is alive.
Those who have been fortunate to have a mother and also those who are deprived of a mother’s love know very well the value of this word ‘mother’.

In our society, culture and traditions we have the highest regards for our Mother. There are numerous stories of a ‘mother’s sacrifices as well as how some of them were the inspiration behind making of our great heroes and those many famous personalities and not to forget those who may not have got the publicity or the limelight, or those whose stories of great courage, stories of successful life inspired by their mothers may not have reached to us.

Also there are many who have been able to make a mark in their life and have achieved a lot only because their Mothers and their Mothers have been a great inspiration for them and played an important role in shaping their destiny.

Today, we salute them all and salute their ‘womanhood’ because after all before being a mother they all are ‘women’.

A girl child – a daughter, a sister, a wife- better-half, a mother – a woman plays so many important roles in and around us.
She loves, she inspires, she cares, she gives meaning to life, she is mother, she is friend, she is daughter, and she is not only wife but simply a life…
A beautiful message describes a woman as ‘ the willingness to listen, the patience to understand, the strength to support, the heart to care and just to be there … that is the beauty of a woman’..

Today also happens to be the birth anniversary of poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi.

He has talked about woman’s plight, her sufferings, how she has been treated for years in the society, what challenges she face, what are her problems and many more things associated with a woman. Through his poetry and songs he has time to time discuss womanhood and have thrown light on the contemporary world where woman have been neglected, insulted and tortured.

We are all aware that Sahir Ludhianvi shared a strong bond with his mother and many of his poems on woman have been inspired by his mother’s hardships and challenges she faced during her life.

Most of the books on Sahir Ludhianvi mentions the strong bond of relationship that he shared with his Mother and many of us are aware of this through information in books on Sahir Ludhianvi or other sources like interviews of famous film personalities or information available on the internet.

But I do not think that his mother has been discussed in any great details in any of these resources. Today we throw some light on the above based on the information available in few books on Sahir Ludhianvi and some information on internet.

In the ‘introduction’ of the book ‘ Jaag Utthhe Khwaab Kayi- Sahir Ludhianvi ’ (Penguin Books India-Yatra Books-2010) editor Murlimanohar Prasad Singh mentions that if one has to understand Sahir’s personality, ideology, emotions, thoughts and dreams and his poetic soul and if one has to know Sahir, one has to know about his mother Sardar Begam.

To put his point further he has cited the novel “Mother” by Maxim Gorky published in 1906, based on which a Russian movie “Mother” was made in 1926 which was directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin.
The plot of the original novel as mentioned on Wikipedia is as given below;

In his novel, Gorky portrays the life of a woman who works in a Russian factory doing hard manual labour and combating poverty and hunger, among other hardships. Pelageya Nilovna Vlasova is the real protagonist; her husband, a heavy drunkard, physically assaults her and leaves all the responsibility for raising their son, Pavel Vlasov, to her, but unexpectedly dies. Pavel noticeably begins to emulate his father in his drunkenness and stammer, but suddenly becomes involved in revolutionary activities. Abandoning drinking, Pavel starts to bring books to his home. Being illiterate and having no political interest, Nilovna is at first cautious about Pavel’s new activities. However, she wants to help him. Pavel is shown as the main revolutionary character. Nevertheless Nilovna, moved by her maternal feelings and, though uneducated, overcoming her political ignorance to become involved in revolution, is considered the true protagonist of the novel.

(The ‘plot’ of the film ‘Mother’(1926) is there in wiki.)

A single woman whether she is a ‘widow’, a divorcee, or a ‘woman simply abandoned by her husband’ has a tough task surviving in a male dominated society. The hardships faced by a woman in her situation could only be imagined, especially in the era where she lived.

I have tried to visualise how Sahir’s mother would have faced the challenges of her times and how she was able to do upbringing of Sahir and his love for poetry even in those turbulent times of her personal life. Her firmness, righteousness, virtuousness, her mental stength, etc. have been reflected in various poems/songs that Sahir has penned while writing songs related to women.

So when we have a lullaby from his pen his words are full of aspitaions for her child;

So ja re so ja meri ankhiyon ke taare
mere raajdulaare
tohe sapnon ki nagri se
nindiya pukaare
pariyon ke baalak
taaron ke bhes mein
tujhko bulaane aaye
chanda ke des mein
sapnon ka raaj hai ae
mere munne ke liye
phoolon ka taaj hai

Sardar Begam, Sahir’s mother left her husband’s home, when he married for 12th time, and she took her child with her and brought him up singlehandedly.

One can imagine how little Sahir was being fed, what values were being inculcated in him and how his life was being shaped.

Mere munne re
seedhi raah pe chalna
jug jug tak phoolna phalna
kaisi bhi mushkil aaye
tera paaon na dolne paaye
tu kul ka maan badhaaye
main tujh par balihaari
seedhi raah pe chalna
sach baat se mat ghabraana
har jhooth se takra jaana
sansaar mein naam kamaana
meri jeewan raat andheri
tu nanhee jyot hai meri
kal hoke na ho maa teri
main tujh par balihaari
seedhi raah pe chalna

(When I shared this song earlier, it reminded me of the famous poem ‘the hand that rocked the cradle, is the hand that rules the world’)

When Sahir’s mother left her husband’s home and took the child Sahir with her, her husband tried to pressurize her to come back home and also to leave the child with him.

But instead of succumbing to his pressure Sardar Begam filed a case for divorce and also for the custody of Sahir. Sahir’s father had even threatened to Sahir if his demands were not met.
During all this time Sahir’s mother must have surely been worried about the uncertain future of her child.

We could find these worries articulated in Sahir’s songs;

aaj main pyaar ke aanchal mein chhupaa leti hoon
kal ye kamzor sahaaraa bhi na haasil hogaa
kal tujhe kaanton bhari raah pe chalnaa hogaa
zindagaani ki kadi dhoop mein jalnaa hogaa
tere bachpan ko jawaani ki duaa deti hoon
aur duaa deke pareshaan si ho jaati hoon

Or

parmeshwar rakhwaala teraa
wo hi maata
wo hi pita hai
maine to bas paala aa
sukh sapne saakaar huye
jab maine tujhko paaya aa
teen lok kaa saain tere
sar par rakkhe saaya
tu mera nanha manmohan
tu mera nandalaala aa aa
parmeshwar rakhwaala teraa
parmeshwar rakhwaala

At times she may have even cursed the circumstances in her life and the fear of losing her own life may also have stuck up her mind, but whom she should trust for her child’s safety;

Kaanton bhare hain sab raaste
tere vaaste
jeewan ki dagar mein
kaun banegaa teraa aasraa
bedard nagar mein
tu mere pyaar kaa phool hai
ke meri bhool hai
kuchh kah nahin sakti
par kisi kaa kiyaa tu bhare
ye sah nahin sakti

Seeing the struggles, trials and tribulations of her mother, a child of tender age has these reasuring words for her mother:

Maa tu aansoo ponchhle apne
rone ki koi baat nahin
jab tak tere saath hoon main
mat soch ke koyee saath nahin
aur zaraa sa paal de mujhko
phir main tujhko paaloonga
jo maangegi so laaunga
koi baat na taaloonga
jo teri jholi mein na daaloon
aisi koi saugaat nahin
Maa tu aansoo ponchhle apne
rone ki koi baat nahin

And when this child grows up he vows to eliminate all the struggles all the problems from his mother’s life;

Jab tak tere saath hoon main
mat soch ke koyee saath nahin
din bhar mehnat karke jab main
shaam ko waapas aaoonga
din bhar mehnat karke jab main
shaam ko waapas aaoonga
apne paas bithaakar tujhko
pyaar ke saath khilaaunga
tu aisa mat soch ke tere
sar pe koyi haath nahin
maa tu aansoo ponchhle apne
rone ki koi baat nahin

And that is why even when Sahir entered adulthood his mother was the centre of his being and when Sahir established himself as a successful lyricist he does everything to ensure that his mother is happy and whenever she was upset Sahir would get tense and he could not be at rest till he get to know that everything is well with his mother.

The troubles she had gone through in bringing up Sahir, after separating from her husband and all the difficulties of a being a woman is what we find expressed in various poems of Sahir and those that later on become part of films.

Sahir’s mother left him in 1976 and Sahir left us on 25.10.1980, just four years later.

I had marked the song under discussion much earlier when I got a chance to share some of the above songs for this blog.

(On second thought, and knowing about the relationship between Jan Nisar Akhtar and the few years Javed Akhtar spent with Sahir Saab it will be interesting to know if the character of mother and the famous dialogue ‘ mere paas maa hain’ from the film Deewaar was at any time inspired from Sahir’s life. Rather I strongly feel that it must have been.
Recently I even tried to speak to Javed Saab but he was out of Mumbai for some work)
[Atul’s remark- No, that Deewaar dialogue may have been inspired from Jawed Akhtar’s mother, Safia Akhtar, who too was a woman of substance and who helped shaped Jaan Nisaar Akhtar as well as Jawed Akhtar’s life.]

Note: Meaning of a few key words:

Parwan chadhna – to grow up, grow, increase, flourish
Sangeen – hard, stony
Marahil – stations, stages, days’ journeys; journeys.
Bakhshnaa– to give, grant, bestow, to forgive, pardon, excuse.

Song-Tu mere saath rahega munne (Trishul)(1978) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-Khayyaam

Lyrics(As per audio)

Tu mere saath rahega munne ae
Tu mere saath rahega munne
Taaqi tu jaan sake
Tujhko parwaan chadhaane ke liye
Kitne sangeen maraahil se
Teri maa guzri
Tu mere saath rahega munne

Tu mere saath rahega munne
Taaqi tu dekh sake
Kitne paaon meri mamta ke
Kaleje pe pade
Kitne khanjar meri aankhon
Mere kaanon mein gade
Tu mere saath rahega munne

Main tujhe reham ke saaye mein na
Palne doongi
Zindagaani ki kadi dhoop mein
jalne doongi
Taaqi tap tap ke tu faulaad baney ae
Maa ki aulaad baney
Maa ki aulaad baney
Tu mere saath rahega munne

Jab talak hoga tera saath nibhaaungi main
Phir chali jaaungi
Us paar ke sannaaton mein
Aur taaron se tujhe jhaankoongi
Zakhm seene mein liye
Phool nigaahon mein liye
Tera koyi bhi nahin mere siwa
Mera koyi bhi nahin tere siwa
Tu mere saath rahega munne
Tu mere saath rahega munne
Tu mere saath rahega munne

(Part-2)

Jab talak hoga tera saath nibhaaungi main
Phir chali jaaungi
Us paar ke sannaaton mein
Jab talak hoga tera saath nibhaaungi main
Phir chali jaaungi
Us paar ke sannaaton mein
Aur taaron se tujhe jhaankungi ee
Zakhm seene mein liye
Phool nigaahon mein liye
Mera har dard tujhe dil mein basaana hoga
Main teri maa hoon
Mera karz chukaana hoga
Meri barbaadi ke zaamin agar aabaad rahen
Main tujhe doodh na bakhshoongi
Tujhe yaad rahe
Main tujhe doodh na bakhshoongi
Tujhe yaad rahe
Tujhe yaad rahe
Tujhe yaad rahe

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # 34 # Krishna Kalle – 1#
———————————————–

There are three songs in this blog so far that start with the phrase ‘Raaja jaani’. There is One such song each from ‘Laal Kunwar-1952’, ‘Watan Parast-1934’ and from ‘Bhai Bhai-1956’.

Technically two of them are similar while the third one starts with different ‘mukhda’ but the ‘first stanza’ ends with ‘Raja jaani pyaare chor hamaare’ (from the film Bhai-Bhai-1956’) but its title appears as mentioned above.

I said two songs are similar because they talk of one ‘common thing’ i.e. the ‘nayan baan’ or ‘nainanwaa ke teer’. See for ypourself:

‘Raaja jaani lagaa mohe nainanwaa ka baan re’ (from ‘Laal Kunwar-1952’)

‘Raaja jaani na maaro nainanwaa ke teer re’ (from ‘Watan Parast-1934’)

When the song from the film ‘Watan Parast-1934’ was posted our respected Sadanand ji has mentioned in his comments that a similar song, (that from the film ‘Laal Kunwar-1952’) has been posted earlier. And in reply to his comments I had mentioned that there is one more song in this ‘raaja jaani’ series and that will be posted soon. It has taken almost a yea’ to get this song on boarth here, though.

Today we are introducing this ‘raaja jaani’ song on the blog.

This song is from the film – ‘Sansaar-1971’ which was directed by Dilip Bose for ‘Deluxe Films, Bombay’. It had Navin Nischhol, Anupama, Nirupa Roy, Abhi Bhattacharya, Jayshree T, Bipin Gupta, Krishna Dhawan, Mohan Choti, Meena T, Chandrima Bhaduri, Asit Sen, Chaman Puri, Jankidas, Mridula, Master Satyajit, Baldev Khosa (New Discovery).

This film was passed by censor board on 06.10.1971.

Lyrics of this film were by Sahir Ludhianvi and Music was composed by Chitragupta.
Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle, Krishna Kalle, Usha Mangeshkar gave their voices to the songs in this film. This film had total seven songs in it. Four songs from this film have already been posted on the blog earlier.

Here is the fifth song from the film being posted on the blog today which is in voice of Krishna Kalle.

Today is the first death anniversary of Krishna Kalle (18.12.1940- 15.03.2015) who died on March 15 last year (2015) at the age of 74 in Mumbai.

On the occasion of her death anniversary here is this song from the film ‘Sansaar-1971’. On screen it is lip-synced by Jayshree T. Also seen in the song are Jankidas and others.

Abhi naadaan hoon
Main Naazuk jaan hoon
Mujhe aise na maaro
Yoonhi halkaan hoon
Mujhe aise na maaro
Yoonhi halkaan hoon
Haaye ae
Teekhee teekhee nazron se
Dekho na saanwariya
Sah na sakoongi
abhi kachchi hai umariya
Ji kachchi hai umariya
Maaro na kataari

Raaja jaani

Zabaan ke narm ho
Nazar ke garm ho
Arre ji tauba tauba

During my routine searching of songs online I came across this film title ‘Dhamki-1945’. And since there had been a film with this same title in 1973 which has already made an entry on the blog, this falls under one of my activities of bringing ‘films with similar titles’ to the blog (so far for the films released before 1980).

Today we will listen to a song from the 1945 ‘Dhamki’ (and not spelled as Dhamkee) which was directed by Ravindra Dave. This film is a presentation by Pancholi Art Pictures of Lahore, which was a pioneering film company in North India, that was set up by Dalsukh Pancholi. Very less information about this movie is available on net and from the information available I can gather that the cast of this film included Ragini, Al Nisar, Smriti, Ajmal, GN Butt, Kalawati, Om Prakash and Ghulam Qadir.

There are nine songs in this film, which are all penned by DN Madhok ji. Music of this film is composed by Pandit Amarnath ji.

So far three songs of this film are available which have been uploaded by music lovers on YT and we are grateful to them for uploading these rare songs. Now, for a film, whose songs are rare and making an entry on the blog and more than one of its songs are available it is always difficult to select one of them to start with.

I have selected this song sung by Zeenat Begam for the debut entry of this film on the blog today.

Song – Dard e Mohabbat Aah Se Keh De (Dhamki)(1945) Singer – Zeenat Begum, Lyrics – DN Madhok, MD – Pt Amarnath

Lyrics

dard e mohabbat
aah se kah de

lab pe na aaye ae
dard e mohabbat
aah se kah de
dil mein rahe aur
lab pe na aaye
ho o o o o
ishq kahin
ho o o o o
ishq kahin
shiqwaa na kare
badnaam mohabbat na ho jaaye
dard e mohabbat

dil mein rahe aur
lab pe na aaye

aaj ka jeena jeena hai
aao ji bhar ke pyaar karen
aaj ka jeena jeena hai
aao ji bhar ke pyaar karen
kal ka bharosa kaun kare
ek saans ka pher hai
aaye na aaye
kal ka bharosa kaun kare
ek saans ka pher hai
aaye na aaye
ho o o o o
ishq kahin
shiqwaa na kare
badnaam mohabbat na ho jaaye
dard e mohabbat

palkon mein ruk ke ik aansoo
sahmein sahmein bol uthha
palkon mein ruk ke ik aansoo
sahmein sahmein bol uthha
jis ne mohabbat ki duniya mein
bebas hokey ashq bahaaye
jis ne mohabbat ki duniya mein
bebas hokey ashq bahaaye

‘Barsaat Ki Ek Raat’ from 1948 was directed by G Singh. The star cast of this film includes Pran, Amarnath, Asha Posley, Shahzadi, Durga Mota and Shyam Lal amongst others.

As per myswar.com the film has as many as twelve songs in it. However the singers’ names have not been specifically mentioned for the individual songs. Also for all the twelve songs the lyrics are credited to three songwriters, viz. DN Madhok, Shaukat Thanvi and Mulkraj Bhakri, meaning that the lyricist name is also not specifically known for individual songs. Music of this film is composed by Ghulam Haider. I request knowledgeable readers to throw more light on the movie and its songs.

Here is a song from this film which is making an entry today on our blog. As per the information available with the YT upload of the song, this song is sung by Munawwar Sultana.

When I came across this song and listened to it, I thought I should hold it till the monsoon arrives, but after listening to it many times, I thought it will give us a better feeling now in the days when the temperatures in many regions are already soaring high day by day. Here at Nagpur, it is already above 42 degree C nowadays. In between it is hazy here sometimes, and sudden showers occurs on some day. Today evening, as I am giving the finishing touches to this post, it is overcast.  Dark clouds have appeared. I can hear the thunder in the skies, and it has already started to rain. So it is the right opportune moment to send this song for posting.

Let us now enjoy this song …

badariya jhoom jhoom ke aayi

do dil mil kar ek huye hain
do dil mil kar ek huye hain
duniya kehti do
aa ha ha ha
o ho ho ho
mil ke na bichchhde ham tum saajan
mil ke na bichchhde ham tum saajan
jo hoye so ho
dil bhi tera
dil bhi tera
main bhi teri
sahi na jaaye judaai
badariya jhoom jhoom ke aayi
badariya jhoom jhoom ke aayi
ghat kaali kaali chhaayi
badariya jhoom jhoom ke aayi
ha ha ha ha
badariya jhoom jhoom ke aayi

Today (15 april 2016) is the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in Indian calendar, which is the date of birth of Lord Ram. This date is commonly known as Ramnavami.

On this occasion, here is a song from “Shri Rambhakt Hanuman”(1948). This movie was directed by Homi Wadia for Basant Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Trilok Kapoor, S N Tripathi, Sona Chatterji, P C Joshi, Niranjan Sharma, Dalpat, Amarnath, Shri Bhagwan etc in it.

Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

This song, the third from the movie to appear in the blog, is sung by Rafi. It is picturised on a character playing Hanuman (or is it Sugreev ?). S N Tripathi used to play the role of Hanuman in such movies and his name figures prominently in the cast of this movie. So is it S N Tripathi lip syncing this song ? I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actor.

There were two lyricists in the movie viz Pt Indra Chandra and B D Mishra, but the lyricist of this song is not known. In fact, even the singer of this song is not mentioned on HFGK. The playback voice is clearly Rafi’s. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us who could be the lyricist of this song.

S N Tripathi is the music director.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Avinash Scrapwala (long long ago).
